Book Review: Dead Flesh

I am a big fan of Tim O’Rourke’s Kiera Hudson books. I can’t get enough of them. Just last month I finished up the six book review series I did for series one. Now, I plan to move onto series two and provide a review for each book. I will continue with a new review each month on the last Monday of the month. This will include ten books in this series and I hope you will follow along as I have with reading them.

The Review

At, the end of series one Kiera makes her choice between the humans and vampyrus. However, she doesn’t make the choice the elders expected. In retribution they cursed her back to life as the dead flesh. Now back at Hallowed Manor with her friends they wonder what their purpose is. To get things back in order, Kiera puts an ad in the paper to find people who need her detective skills.

Now investigating Emily Clarke’s death Kiera finds the world not the way she left it. The world has been pushed with slight changes. With getting pulled to a school filled with kids held by skin-walkers Kiera needs to unravel the horrors within. Will Kayla make it out safe or will she become a skin-walker herself? You will only find out by reading the book.

Tim O’Rourke spins a story so well it is hard to figure out the answers before they happen. He keeps you guessing and wanting more. Each little image he gives is like a trick of the eye and only Kiera Hudson is skilled enough to figure out the scene unfolding before her. As a reader, I find myself pulled into the book and rooting for Kiera. She is a lovable character that you want to succeed more than anything. He keeps you laughing with the banter between Isidor and Potter or Potter and Murphy. If you can’t see Potter is a comical relief wherever he is. Highly recommend this book to everyone that loves a twist on zombies. They aren’t truly zombie like but they do need to feed on blood to keep from turning to ash.

Ranking: 5 out of 5 stars!

Book Spotlight: Scarlet – Taming the Thirst

Welcome to another hump day treat. Today I am featuring T.L. Christianson’s book “Scarlet – Taming the Thirst”. This looks to be an exciting read and I got you a special excerpt. Stop by and check it out. Happy reading everyone :).

An ExcerptT.L.logo

Ahead, I could smell someone. Metallic blood and tangy sweat filled my nose. I licked my lips in anticipation.

I liked runners and I jogged to close the distance. From a few meters, I knew he heard me.

The runner’s speed increased as I neared.

His instincts were right, he should run.

The street lamp up ahead flickered and then died. My breath hitched in excitement, yearning to find my fix.

When the runner entered the unlit section, I called out, “Hey! Hi.”

Turning, he hesitated.

I knew what he saw.

Innocence.

My runner slowed and came to a stop, absentmindedly stretching. He took in a breath of relief, a smile beginning to curve the corners of his mouth.

I approached, amused and biting my lip hesitantly.

He took one step, then two. His heartbeat slowing from his lack of movement.

I neared, his hoodie within my grasp. The smell of his blood mingling with the woodsy cologne of his flesh lured me in another step. Then, I flew at him, my arms locking tightly around his torso making it impossible for him to escape.

The blood beneath his skin sang to me, and my fangs slid out, slipping noiselessly into the surface of his skin.

I sighed as his scarlet magic filled my mouth.

When my saliva hit his bloodstream like a shot of morphine, the runner embraced me like a lover. His fingers tangled in my hair adding to the excitement.

There would be no need to use compulsion on him; his memory would be hazy.

Would he think he had some crazy hook up?

I didn’t know, and I didn’t care.

Warmth flooded my senses as I devoured my fill.

My mind calmed and soothed with the euphoric high from his blood.

My pulse slowed, and relief began to inundate my body.

As a real vampire, a Moroi, I wasn’t undead like the myths. I remained alive, unaged and in my original physical state. I have a pulse and body heat too, which makes it incredibly difficult for a human to identify us.

Absentmindedly, I stroked his dark hair as I drank, vaguely aware of time passing, knowing I should stop, but unable to obey that little voice in the back of my mind.

The runner’s body slumped against me. Too much of his blood had passed my lips, gulp after lovely gulp, but I didn’t stop. I couldn’t care. Drinking live was the best high I’d ever had. More and more, and more, unable to let this feeling of ecstasy stop…

Suddenly, I was yanked off my feet.

I gasped, and the warm liquid ran out of the corner of my mouth and down my chin.

Blinking, I tried to free myself from my stupor.

When my eyes focused, I yelled out, “What the hell?”

In front of me stood a Viking god with his hands on his hips and an exasperated expression. Losing myself in his eyes, I couldn’t stop staring. He had striking heterochromia; one eye was pale blue and the other a dark reddish-brown.

The black Chronos uniform suggested that he must’ve been assigned to “guard” me… I laughed in my inebriation. Yeah, guard me, my ass, this was more of a babysitting gig for the poor schmuck.

My previous guard quit last week. It was a surprise to have been assigned someone so quickly.

“You are Dr. Shepard? I can see we have a lot of work to do. You almost killed him.” When he spoke, an accent lilted his words and sent chills up my spine.

He motioned to his mouth. “You have some on your…”

“I know,” I told him, irritation in my voice.

I didn’t want his interference, but he had prevented me from killing again. I wasn’t sure whether to be angry or relieved.

“I’m working on controlling it,” I told him, wiping the dribble from my chin with the sleeve of my shirt.

Sitting on the sidewalk, I rested my head on my knees, the warm sensation draining away.

I’d been struggling with this problem for precisely six years today.

The Viking folded his arms and stood there watching me, feet apart, planted on the concrete.

He reached down and pulled me up. “Get up. You’ll live.”

I favored his stoic, no-nonsense approach to my problem. Any sympathy would have made me feel weak and awkward.

As we wandered the streets back to my house, I thought about the runner I’d attacked tonight. If it hadn’t been for the Viking, that man would’ve died. His life would’ve been over, and it would have been my fault.

Again.

My voice broke the still silence of the night, “What’s your name, Viking?”

He laughed at my nickname and looked over at me, his mouth quirked up at the corners. “Karsten Ingvar, but you can call me Sten.”

Our pace slowed to a stop, and I put my hand out for his. “Nice to meet you, Sten. Sten?”

“Yeah, Sten. Nice to meet you as well.” His warm hand enclosed my own for this second time, the sizzling, warming sensation of his proximity making me a little dizzy.

All humor fled his countenance as he dropped my hand, apparently recalling his duty.

Without his skin touching mine, a strange empty sensation pricked at me.

Looking out into the night, Sten motioned that we should keep walking.

“Are you new? I’ve never seen you at headquarters.” I asked, sliding him a sideways glance as his long strides ate up the sidewalk.

“Yeah, Mr. Vatia hired me last week. I flew in and got settled… It’s a good thing I started tonight…” His gaze flicked to me. “Unless you’re in the habit of doing that every night.” He gestured in the direction we’d come from.

I sighed out a silent laugh. “No, thank goodness. No.”

After several minutes went by, the silence weighed heavy on me. “Where are you from?”

“Denmark, but I’ve lived all over Europe. This is my first time living here in the States.”

“Oh.”

“Are you from…New York?”

“Born and raised,” I told him. “Except now I live here, in New Jersey…for my lab…that’s here…It’s cheaper real estate and Chronos Corp focuses mainly on pharmacology, and I’m a virologist, but they fund my research.” A blush spread up my neck. Why was I rambling so much? “So, did you know what you’d be in for when you flew all this way? It’s not exactly the dream job.”

His chest rumbled in silent mirth. “Yes. I’m what you call a specialist. I train new Moroi, usually soldiers but now I’m here to help you.”

I almost slapped myself. Mr. Vatia hired him? Aurev Vatia did not hire soldiers personally. I’d become a special case.

Was I really that bad?

My lips twisted, “Do you think you can help me? How long will it take?”

He nodded, “It’s different for everyone. For some people, they don’t suffer from thirst. For others, they will always struggle but can learn control.”

I hoped it wouldn’t come to that.

Waiting at a corner for a car to pass, I surreptitiously studied this new mysterious stranger in my life.

An image of the last person I killed flashed across my vision.

I needed to get ahold of myself.

Tears stung the backs of my eyes; I blinked them away.

My Viking just stood there, piercing a hole through my soul with his strange eyes.

Finally, he spoke. “Stop,” he cradled my face in his hands. “I’m not just a guard to keep you in check–

I’ve trained hundreds of soldiers. Now, I’m here to help you.”

I studied his face. I couldn’t help flicking my gaze between his different colored irises. His kind eyes were steady, and the corner of his lips quirked up into a sympathetic smile.

“I know. I’m just so relieved.” I whispered into the charged space between us.

Licking my lips, my mouth was suddenly dry.

The way he looked at me made me feel naked, even in the darkness of night. My Viking was straight out of my wildest dreams. Foreign, rugged and painfully handsome, he took my breath away.

When his fingers unthreaded from my hair and around my face, I noticed his pulse jumped.

Chemistry flew between us and maybe a few sparks, but I couldn’t go there.

I laughed and ran my fingers under my eyes. This was Aurev’s perverse sense of humor to dangle a man I couldn’t have in my face.

In my house.

Wherever I went.

But, I needed this damn hunger to end. A day without worrying and staying away from humans seemed impossible. Karsten was my lifeline, and I couldn’t screw this up.

“Is this my last chance?” I wondered aloud.

My Viking’s mouth curved up at the corner. “No, min lille heks, no. However, when I leave, you will be in control of yourself.”

Book Review: Vampire Hollows

The finale is here. This will end my series review for Kiera Hudson Series One. However, there are additional series so the book review series will continue. Thought you were done with me not yet. I currently have series two already read and will do those reviews on schedule after I publish this one. I hope everyone enjoyed this series as much as I did. If you haven’t started it yet, you should it is an awesome read. This coming from the girl that doesn’t like reading vampire books. That has transformed since reading Tim O’Rourke’s published books.

The Review

Kiera and her friends are out of options, the only place they can go is the Hallows. Seeing a world talked about will fill Kiera with wonder. But, with danger around every corner her friends start to drop like flies.

Will she make it to the elders to make her choice? Who is Elias Munn and how will she stop him from destroying the human world? Can she destroy an entire race to save those she loves most? You will only find out by reading this awesome book.

This book was by far my favorite. It was not because it is the last book in the series with all the answers to my questions. This book had so many twists, turns, ups, and downs it kept me reeling in my seat. Each book gets better and better. Then the ending comes with the most surprising twist.

Yes, the ending was twisted but left me screaming. I wanted a different ending. I wanted it to continue. The sense I was cheated as a reader felt strong. Then I got to the end where a preview for the next series book was. Then happiness crept back in and I couldn’t wait to grab the next series to find out the next twist and turns to come.

Tim O’Rourke you are a talented author. I loved each book with a passion. Yes, there were times I stumbled across formatting issues, typos or something else not worth mentioning. But, I loved the book so much I could overlook these small in-fractures. Please keep writing so I can keep reading your books. Love them to death. Overall, out of all them I only 4 starred one book in this series. The rest all blew my mind away.

Question I had while reading this book:

Who is Elias Munn? Luke or Potter?

Who is killing Kiera’s friends?

Tim O’Rourke should make artwork of the hallows. (Not a question more like an idea :).)

Ranking: 5 out of 5 stars!

Book Review: Wolf House

These books are an addiction I can’t shake. I didn’t realize how I was going to get wrapped up in this series when I snatched up book 1. Hard to believe that one freebie turned into a hungry to read the entire series. This isn’t the first time this has happened to me and I bet it won’t be my last. Check out my review below to see my thoughts on the fifth book in Tim O’Rourke’s Kiera Hudson Series One.

The Review

Kiera is free and back with Potter. But, Luke is still missing and Potter wanting to show his love for Kiera sets off to help find him. He is twisted up inside because nothing he does seems right in Kiera’s eyes. Potter falls back into old habits when he runs down memory lane.

A lycanthrope brings him back through his past to revisit the nightmare he lived in the Wolf House. Find out if Potter finds the murderer of the children in this adventure. Also, watch as Potter not only falls in love but rips the heart of Kiera at the same time. Who can she trust?

First off, I love this book. At first I didn’t understand the importance it had within the series. So far, all the books have been in Kiera’s POV. Then boom this book drops in front of me and it is all Potter. At first I didn’t see why it was even in the series. Yes, it would be a good book as a side novella but in the series?

Once I got to the end of this book, it was all laid out for me in black and white. This book ties into the series with such fine strings you have to follow along without hesitation. I had so many questions and it answered them all. Now the new problem is who is Elias Munn? Is it Potter? You will have to read to find out.

Question I had while reading this book:

What is the importance of Potter’s journey at the Wolf House?

Why does Potter do and say everything wrong?

Is he Elias Munn?

Where the heck is Luke?

And, why can’t Kiera make her choice on her man already?

Ranking: 4 out of 5 stars!

The Book

WOLF HOUSEWolf House

Book Review: Vampire Breed

The suspense of this series is killing me. I haven’t gone several days without reading at least a few chapters a day. I’ve been neglecting my writing to read these books. I am obsessed. But, our book review series must continue on as should my own writing. In a few words I will tell you about this book and my thoughts on it too. I hope you are enjoying this book review series.

The Review

Kiera is imprisoned. She doesn’t know where she is being held. Or, if her friends are even alive. Potter promised to come to her rescue, but where is he. Now hooked on the red stuff Kiera is an addict at the mercy of her captives.

She is out of her mind not knowing what is the truth or a fabrication the addiction has caused. All she knows is that a strange lycanthrope comes to her each night in her cell. Is he friend or foe Kiera doesn’t know? Realizing freedom can only come at her own hands she devises a plan for escape. Does she make it? You must read to find out.

This book in the series really showcases the loss of one’s will when addiction takes hold. It shows the struggle and harm it brings. Then tells of how the fight to remain clean is a burden that can kill. Tim O’Rourke takes you on an emotional rollercoaster that keeps you turning the page. The darkness in the series really takes hold in this book and perp-ells the series forward.

Question I had while reading this book:

Where the hell is Potter?

What happened to Luke?

Who is behind this brutal treatment?

And, who is this wolf that stalks Kiera at night?

Ranking: 5 out of 5 stars!

The Book

Character Interview: Alabama Rain

Happy Friday everyone! Today I am featuring Alabama Rain from her book Alabama Rain. Lol, sounds like she is awesome if she gets her name on the cover. Well anyway today I am featuring her in a character interview. Who is the lucky author that wrote this awesome vampire book? That would be PNR author Lana Campbell. Stop by and check out this spectacular interview to see inside her main character.

The Interview

Who are you and what makes you great?

I’m Alabama Rain Holden and I’m an ex-drug dealer. Until a short while ago nothing made me great. I was forced by my feral vampire father to do despicable things and I hated myself and my life. Then I met a special person who showed me how to rise above my lot in life. He showed me unconditional love and taught me that God loves me unconditionally. Now what makes me great is the ability to forgive those who have hurt me and love them unconditionally through the power of God’s grace and love for me.

What kind of adventures have you had that stay with you till this day?

When I was a kid before my father lost his sanity and soul and my mother died, I had an amazing family. We traveled in an RV all over the country for my parents’ work. My father played in a band and got gigs in bars, casinos and farmers markets. My mother sold crystal jewelry at farmers markets and flea markets. My parents always managed to take time for me and my brother Gan. They homeschooled us and took us to hundreds of historical sites across the country. We learned history by viewing where it had happened, from battlefields to southern plantations, historical figures homes–you name it.

Do you have a love interest? If you do please tell us about him/her or why you don’t.

I do. His name is Nate Davenport. Like me, he’s a born vampire. His childhood was one of wealth and privilege filled with love too. He’s a Christian. A real one that lives the life and is loving and kind. There isn’t a judgmental bone in his body. He was able to see past the sick and twisted criminal life I led to the agony I felt for having to do it. He saw the true me and at the time, the wounded me. Instead of being disgusted by what I did to survive, he gave me help and hope for a future. He’s the best thing that ever happened to me and did I mention he’s gorgeous? I love him and I’m so happy he’s my life mate.

Tell us about your journey you are on and how it has helped you grow as a person.

I’m on a journey of self discovery. I lost twelve years of my youth living in darkness and fear because I was a drug dealer for my father. I missed out on college, dating, proms and all the things high school and college kids get to do. Now that I’m free and living a respectable life, I’m trying to see who I am as a person. I recently published my first novel, a parody of my life. It’s about a drug dealer and her brother, who also deals drugs, trying to get out of that life and find their happily ever after. The book is a best seller and I couldn’t be happier. My goal is to continue writing, while finding other talents to cultivate and nurture.

If you had one thing about yourself that you would want to change what would it be?

My past. I wish I could have been a normal girl that hadn’t had to fight to survive. I wish I could have taken ballet classes instead of martial arts that were necessary for me to learn to fend off thugs, drug dealers and scumbags. I wish I could have had a best friend growing up, but there was no room in my life for friends. I have one now though and that’s my life mate Nate. With his help I’m gaining back all the things I lost and I’m starting to put my past behind me.

Who is your ultimate enemy? Why?

I don’t have any enemies anymore. Once my ultimate enemy was my father. He had a mental disease called feralism, something vampires who lose their life mates are prone to suffering. He made my life a living hell during the dark years of his sickness. I hated him, yet I loved him and wanted him to love me back. He couldn’t because he existed in a place of darkness so smothering it destroyed his ability to tell right from wrong. His crimes and sins finally caught up with him, though. He was arrested by a vampire tribunal and was facing a death sentence which caused him to have a revelation about the man he’d become. It was God who propagated that revelation for my father and he repented of his horrible crimes and all the vicious, insufferable things he did to me. He begged me to forgive him and I did. Today I have a wonderful, loving father who is no longer my enemy, but a man I can love and respect because he now walks with God.

What should we expect from you in your coming book?

Alabama Rain is an emotional roller coaster ride and I cried writing it more than any book I’ve ever written. Alabama’s father, Ken Holden was absolutely the most sick and twisted villain I’ve ever created. He murdered people, raped young girls, peddled copious amounts of drugs, did them himself and turned teen humans and vampires into drug dealers and addicts. An awful person he was until God opened his eyes to the vile, disgusting creature he’d been. In Alabama Rain, Ken gets saved and does everything in his power to make up for his evil. I felt Ken needed his own story that occurs after being imprisoned by a vampire tribunal for all his heinous crimes. My next book is Ken’s journey to forgive himself, which doesn’t come easy. He has some help, though. Lovely Eden McCallister, a vampire psychologist who deals with feral vampires, helps him see there can be life after being a feral vampire and forgiving oneself doesn’t mean discounting or forgetting the terrible things Ken did to other people.

The Book

Lana Campbell Alabama Rain for printAlabama Rain Holden’s life is a dreadful and dangerous one as a thief of drugs for her father, drug lord Ken Holden. Rain hates her life, but she’s damned good at what she does. As a vampire with an acute sense of smell, she can sniff out any drug as well as a blood hound, enchant the human mule with the goods to be sold and relieve him or her of the product without the person never remembering the encounter.

One night her drug thievery takes her to Davenport Tower, an opulent forty eight stories of luxury condos owned by the handsome, vampire billionaire, Nate Davenport. Rain’s job that evening is to locate the sellers carrying seventy-five pounds of Columbian weed, steal it and return the goods to her father. Unfortunately, the heist going down in Davenport Tower’s parking garage is interrupted by none other than Nate Davenport himself.

Nate is incensed when he discovers Rain is a drug dealer operating on his turf. He embarks on a mission to catch her committing a crime so he can bring her before a vampire tribunal where she will pay for her crimes with her life. In his efforts to get the evidence Nate needs against Rain, he instead gets information he never bargained for. Once he learns her dark secret, that she’s been brutally forced into this life of crime by her maniacal father, Nate will stop at nothing to liberate her from her feral vampire father.

To survive in a world she hates, Rain adopts a bad ass persona. It doesn’t take Nate long to see the real Alabama Rain’s heart. She’s brave and fearless, kind and compassionate. He was sitting beside Destiny’s hospital bed in the plush, blue vinyl chair she’d resided on earlier and Destiny was sitting across his lap, still wearing a hospital gown. One of his muscled arms was snaked around her waist. Rain watched his other hand, which had been resting at his side, raise. He held a small, shiny silver dagger with a pearl handle. Rain’s heart nearly stopped when he placed the razor sharp edge against Destiny’s throat. She’d seen her father use the thing before on hirelings that fucked him over. It was a deadly little weapon not even five inches long, but it could cut through flesh as if it were butter.

Destiny sucked in a sharp breath and her eyes went wide with fear. Her pupils were hugely dilated. So much so Rain could barely see the bronze irises. The teen’s body shook with a violence born of terror.

The last thing Rain took note of was her father’s eyes, which were riddled with hate and honed on her. She could sense rage brewing in him. It was right below the surface of what appeared to be a very calm, calculated demeanor. But Rain knew her father too well. He was not at all in control. He was incensed with her for stealing Destiny and this time it wouldn’t be her body that suffered the consequences of her actions. No. It was going to be Destiny that paid for her sins.

“Oh God, Papa, no!” Rain cried. She dropped her bags and fell to her knees assuming the most pleading, submissive pose she could manage around the desperation and fear flowing through her veins like quicksilver.

Her father ignored her. His steely gaze was now fixed on Mia. Rain couldn’t see Mia because she was behind her, but she didn’t have to in order to know the woman was entrenched in the same pool of crippling fear Rain found herself drowning in.

Seconds later she too made a plea for Destiny’s life. “Sir, please put the knife down. She’s just a little girl. Please have mercy.”

“Fuck your mercy, bitch. Neither one of these two ungrateful cunts deserve mercy.” As if to punctuate that fact, he pressed the knife deeper into Destiny’s tender flesh. “Make a sound and I’ll slit you ear to ear. Do I make myself clear?” he snarled into Destiny’s ear

Destiny wheezed as she inhaled, but she didn’t cry out. She didn’t even whimper. But it looked to Rain as if it was taking every ounce of effort she possessed to remain still and silent. She was so obviously terrified but holding it together like a real trooper. If she could just continue to do her part, Rain would gladly die trying to do hers, which would be to trade her places.

Oh fuck, he’d cut her, Rain realized when a thin stream of blood trickled down Destiny’s neck and soaked into the neckline of her hospital gown. Oh shit! What to do? What to do? Rain wanted to scream. No. She wanted to pounce on her father, wrangle that knife out of his hand and plunge it into his black, evil heart, but that wasn’t going to happen. She had only herself to use as a bargaining tool for Destiny’s life.

“Papa, what do you want me to do? Name it. I’ll do anything you ask if you’ll let her go.”

Her father made a noise, part snort, part laugh. “You’re going to do what I want you to do regardless of what I do to this girl. But because you took it upon yourself to take her away from me, I think I’ll make her pay for your insolence.”

Mia stepped up beside Rain and held out both of her hands in a supplicating way. “Look, I know what you are. I know you could care less about that child, but I do care about her. I’m Mia Davenport. I’ll pay you any amount you want if you’ll turn her over to me. Just give me a number and I’ll have the money to you right here within the hour.”

Rain’s father started laughing. “I know who you are and I could care less about you and your money. This isn’t about you. This is about two very bad girls running off. Now they’re both going to learn what happens to bad girls who run away.”

His hand that had been resting on Destiny’s stomach whipped up and grabbed a handful of her hair in a motion so quick had Rain blinked she would have missed it. In one swift, fluid movement, he yanked her head back and sliced deep into her throat. Blood sprayed outward from the ghastly wound pelting Rain’s face. Rain let loose a blood curdling scream. So did Mia. That brought nurses en mass to the room, but by this time of course it was too late for Destiny.

Lana Campbell LowResLana Campbell is the author of the Forever and a Night vampire romance series. All of her books are psychological thrillers. They each have a Christian element, a feel good message and a romance so sweet and hot they’ll leave you breathless. She loves writing paranormal romance and is an avid reader of it too. From the time she was fourteen Lana always had a romance novel in her backpack and was reading it after school, at school, wherever she could find a few minutes to read. Reading enticed her to write. She wrote her first book in 1995, but never considered publishing anything until much later. She got serious about publishing in 2014 and book one, Forever and a Night came out in 2016. There are currently six more stand alone books in her series. Lana lives in Pea Ridge AR with her oldest daughter, Jessica and a cat named Jenna. If she’s not writing you can probably find her at the nearest lake.

So what do I write?

Christian paranormal romance psychological thrillers. Quite a combination, huh? Well, my vampires are most unique. I can almost promise you won’t find them typical. Some are famous billionaires, a few are OB/GYN’s for vampires. I’ve also got a computer geek, a interior decorator and oh, last but not least a thief of drugs.
Each story has bigger than life heroes and heroines and you won’t be able to help getting invested in their lives and all their drama. There’s always a villain you’ll love to hate who will stop an nothing to destroy the MC’s lives and love.

All stories have a message of redemption in them, leaving you feeling good after the drama-drenched rollercoaster ride of danger and disasters for the hero and heroine.

You’ll get no cliffhangers with my stories. All stand alone and all have happily every afters.

If you’re looking to sink into a story that will sweep you away and leave you hungry for more, try the books in my Forever and a Night series. You’ll be glad you did.

Book Review: Vampire Wake

Greetings everyone, welcome to my blog and hope you enjoy my latest review for Tim O’Rourke’s book, “Vampire Wake.” This is only the second book in his first series featuring Kiera Hudson and I couldn’t wait to start it. I hope you will enjoy my thoughts and snatch this book up for your next read.

The Review

They suspend Kiera Hudson from the police force after what happened in the small town of Ragged Cove. Now on her own with nothing to do she looks for work as a detective. She waits for signs of the horror that will come by watching the news like a hawk.

Then the day comes she meets Ms. Hunt and gets hired to protect her daughter, pretty much babysit her. Little does Kiera realize that her life has already begun to unravel. Life outside Hallowed Manor disappears while she sits behind its safe walls. With a strange man wrapped in bandages on the grounds she finds herself on the mission to find out his true identity.

Tim O’Rourke creates a puzzle of events that come together as he sews them together as one. I found myself so captivated by this book I read it in one sitting without realizing time passed. The ending still leaves me reeling and wanting more. The nice thing about this series is I don’t have to wait for the next book to come out. I can jump right into the next one and trust me this book just makes you hungry to keep going.

Some questions that ran through my head while reading this book:

Where is Murphy, Luke and Potter?

What happened to them?

Who is pulling the strings to bring Kiera to Hallowed Manor?

What secrets lay within the hidden wing of Hallowed Manor?

If you want to know the answers to these questions like I did, you must read “Vampire Wake” to get your answers.

Book Review: Vampire Shift

I stumbled across this new author named Tim O’Rourke in a book funnel promo. Usually, I don’t like reading vampire books but fell in love with his series. He has a vast number of books and I plan to read them all. I mean it he has around 60 books, and this girl is making it a mission to read them all if it kills her.

So, far I have made it through two series and half-way through the third in his Kiera Hudson books. He has other series with different characters I plan to jump into later on. With this project I plan to write a review on each book as I complete them. Right now I have several reviews to write up before I can share them. Expect this to be like a series of reviews for this author.

The first book I will review is the “Vampire Shift.” It is the first book that drew me in so deep that I can’t get enough of this author now. So, hang on tight as I get my wits about myself.

The Review

Kiera Hudson is a new recruit sent to the Ragged Cove. She meets up with Sergeant Murphy, Luke Bishop, and an examiner named Sean Potter (a.k.a just Potter). Everything doesn’t seem right in the small town of Ragged Cove. The weather is always bad with snow and civilians fear for their lives.

Rumors of vampires causing all the deaths and the police department only working the night shift. Things just keep getting weirder. She has to figure out who is behind the killings and who it is that is following her. This book has twists, turns and keeps you guessing till the end.

I sat down to read this book not knowing anything about the author or the world within. I thought the synopsis was interesting and found it to be an amazing read. It hooked me after the first few pages and I couldn’t put it down. I devoured this book in one day and I couldn’t stop there. I started on the adventure with this series and have plenty more in store.

If you love vampires, werewolves, or creatures of the night this book is what you are looking for. Tim O’Rourke keeps you reading and wanting more. I even broke down and got kindle unlimited to read his books. Snatch up this read as soon as you can. It is a PERMAFREE book that begins the series.

Ranking: 5 out of 5 stars!
