This is my first attempt at doing NaNo in November. I have done camp NaNo in the past with success. At this time my word count is sitting at 12,411. I am hoping after a few more days I can hit 20k by the end of the week. But, you will have to wait till next Monday to find out if I make this word count goal.

#WIP Monday – NaNo Takeover

Its been a few weeks since my last #WIP Monday post. Sorry about this been a hectic few weeks. I have been writing, designing, and working on several projects along with participating in several online author events. This has taken a toll on my blogging time for my posts. However, things are starting to get under control.

Due to it being a new month I will provide my goals from last month and share how I measured up. Then will follow up with my new goals for November.

My Goals for October:

  1. Publish “Bonds of Friendship” story #3 in the Tales of Ferrês series. Included with this is the following:
    1. Finish designing the book cover (Done)
    2. Finish writing the story (Done)
    3. Edit it and get it up for Pre-Order once the cover is done (Done)
    4. Get Promo graphics made (Done)
  2. Get the rough done for The Celestial One episode one. (Changed back to Book Format)
  3. Work on Tarzinëa’s outline and world building (Didn’t Touch)
  4. Write the next story in the Tales of Ferrês series – this would be #4 (Finished ~ being edited)
  5. Don’t go nuts with all the promos and events going on :). (Made it through alive)

The only items on the list for October I didn’t get to was numbers 2 & 3. Bonds of Friendship is officially done. It had to be pushed back to Nov. 9th for release due to the holiday. Didn’t want to take away from family time for myself or my editor.

Story number four, The Assassin’s Prophecy is done. I finished writing it yesterday Nov. 4th. It was my first item on my list for NaNo. Now I am working on story five, Nightmare of Ferrês. I put in over 2k on this story this morning alone. This story will be done either today or tomorrow morning. Depends on if I get quiet time at all today for writing.

My writing goals for November are as followed:

  1. Write Story #4 ~ The Assassin’s Prophecy (Being Edited)
  2. Write Story #5 ~ Nightmare of Ferrês (Currently Writing)
  3. Write Story #6 ~ The Wrath of SnowFire (Not Started)
  4. Write Anthology Piece ~ Path to Redemption, Demonic Embrace Prequel ~ Word Limit: 15-20k, Deadline: January 2019.
  5. Start Writing Demonic Embrace Book 1 ~ Escape to Worcester
  6. Get Story #5 & 6’s Covers Done
  7. Make New Release graphic for Story #3 ~ Bonds of Friendship
  8. Make pre-order, teasers and new release graphics for Story #4 & 5

I could probably go on and on with a list of things I want to get done in November. However I think this will be a good start. With NaNo I am hoping to get most of these writing projects done. Then if I clear them out of the way I can work on Tarzinëa like I’ve been wanting to do.

WHAT’S NEW

I have a long list of knew items I can go into in this post. However, I am going to try to focus on the important items below. The top random knew items that come to mind are: the word counters in my footer widgets, my rebranding for my newsletter, and my new books coming out.

The biggest item of news is this girl has been signed up Triple Goddess Publishing. I’ll be with them for the next five years under contract and will be doing several anthologies with them, along with my own books. This transition has to do with me being quiet on my blog lately. But, hey now I am back in the game and ready to get the party started again.

Below you will find my upcoming events and promos I have my books signed up under. Check them out and have fun.

The 13: Tales of Macabre Book Review

Stephanie Ayers doesn’t disappoint with book two in her, The 13 series. The 13: Tales of Macabre opens with an epic story of love and betrayal pulling you in. As with Tales of Illusory you will find a story to spark your inner horror fancies around this most wonderful time of year. No I’m not talking about the horrid Christmas season, I’m talking about the best holiday ever! Halloween.

If you don’t know me or the fact that I am the proud mother of two twin 1 year-old boys then you will understand how epic this book is to me. I started my morning sitting down to just read one story, before the monsters woke up for breakfast. The Tales of Macabre had me so captivated I sat down between screaming fits and read to the end within a two hour period.

Her beautifully crafted stories and technique with creating such a master piece has inspired the writer in me. I now am planning to do my own horror story collection for next year and here’s hoping Stephanie is too. Looking forward to book 3 Stephanie so keep them coming.

Killer watermelons, murderous jewelry boxes, centenarian sea whisperers, creatures of myth/legend, and more…

The 13: Tales of Illusory Book Review

Several decades have passed since the last time I sat down to read a horror genre book. I am an avid fantasy lover with a mixed love for vampires, werewolves and so much more. Stephanie Ayers’ The 13: Tales of Illusory was a refreshing read. It sparked my love for horror all over again. Each story leaves its own impression and keeps you turning the page making you wonder “what’s next?”

I would have to say my top two favorite stories were “Tears of a Sinner” and “What the Sign Saw”. “Tears of a Sinner” gave me the wonder of a vampire tale filled with romance and death. When I finished this story, I wished it was a full-length book instead, it left me screaming for more. But, the wonder didn’t end there for I found another story that was longer and fulfilled the hunger I needed fed.

“What the Sign Saw” kept me captivated till the end making me want to turn the page. This story has turns and twists keeping you on your toes. The ending is brutal but I won’t spoil it for you. This story had me so captivated my poor fiancé tried to ask me something during this story and I bit his head off. Told him “don’t interrupt me I’m getting to the good part!” Definitely recommend this book to anyone that loves suspense, horror and a mix of death with romance.

Overall, I highly recommend this book to any avid horror loving readers. If you are looking for something fun, creepy, suspenseful and steamy then buy this book. Stephanie did such an awesome job with this story collection I already pre-order book 2 The 13: Tales of Macabre, scheduled for release this Friday, October 26, 2018. Keep your eyes peeled for book 2’s review coming Friday. And, Stephanie loved your book and look forward to reading all your other creepy fantastical reads.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW w/ Stephanie Ayers

It’s another Friday here on my blog and as always I have a special author spotlight for your enjoyment. This one is a bit different, since it will be part of Speculative Fiction author Stephanie Ayers’ blog tour for her new release, The 13: Tales of Macabre. Today I will be featuring Stephanie in an in-depth interview and including some awesome images to give you an inside look into this collection of horror stories along with her WIP Elven Games. Let’s have some fun and get this party started. 🙂

tour line up

Above you can see the line-up for this blog tour. In a bit I will get to the interview, but thought I would share a few spooky excerpts from The 13: Tales of Macabre.

THE INTERVIEW!

Tell us a little bit about yourself and why you decided to become a writer?
I bleed ink. I know you’ve heard that before, but it’s true. If I’m not writing, I’m helping someone else who is writing. I love the author community, all of it, traditionally published or indie. I didn’t decide to become a writer until 2010 when I wrote the first word to my new blog, The Scoop on Poop. It was a humorous look at my daily living, which then belonged to 4 children, 2 of whom I inherited by marriage and were raised to hate me. Blogging introduced me to some writing circles, and that got me writing fiction regularly again. You see, when I was in 3rd or 4th grade, I discovered my love of writing (and my knack for it) with my first assignment based on a dancing peanut. I entertained ideas as a child about being the next Stephen King, but I also wanted to be an actress, a singer… anything that made me famous. My love of writing never quit though, and now I call myself a full time author. I also do content writing on the side to help pad the empty pockets us authors always seem to have.

What genres do you write?
While most of my published writing has taken a turn towards horror, I consider myself a speculative fiction author. I just made my debut into the world of fantasy with my short story titled Wings, a stand alone from the upcoming Destiny Defined series.

Where are you from? Does your area have a good writing community? Tell us about it.
I was born and raised in Virginia, outside of DC. The area I lived in had a growing writing community with some workshops and writing groups gathering at the local library branches, and the libraries offering author spotlights and book signings. The first local book fair happened two years ago. When I moved to Ohio this year, I noticed a huge difference. While I haven’t sought out writing groups, I have already joined in a local book fair with 3 more scheduled for this year. There’s a popular book store in Columbus that will sell my books and is known for regular author appearances. There seems to be much more for an author here in Ohio than there is in Virginia.

What do you do besides being a writer? Do you have a day job? Tell us a bit about this or hobbies you enjoy.
When I’m not writing, I’m promoting other authors, playing around in Photoshop, watching my son play football (go Titans!), or binge watching a beloved TV show. On the weekends, my husband and I can usually be found haunting flea markets and antique stores.

How often do you write? Do you have a page/word count? Do you set goals for yourself? Tell us a bit about your writing and how you keep things going.
After two years of focusing on the author community and other authors, I have to find my mojo again. I haven’t set word count goals. I’ve set “must get this book ready” deadlines instead and then stress myself out meeting them. Apparently I work best under pressure. I always thought that silence was the best way for me to focus and write, especially as an almost deaf writer, but recently discovered that the right soundtrack makes for really good writing and big word counts too.

How long does it take you to write a novel?
Well… Elven Games began in 2012. It still needs an ending. I have only completed one novel during NaNoWriMo. Destiny United sits at 54k words and is in need of serious revision. On the other hand, because I spent a lot of time answering writing prompts, I have folders full of short stories. Putting together a story collection can be done in 2 weeks to 30 days. Not sure that really answers the question. I’m cursed by procrastination and easily distracted.

What are your goals as an author? Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years? I don’t think that far ahead. Its a daily process for me, just getting to the next month with whatever plans I have going on. Right now, I have two live events in October, this book blog tour for the release of one book, while celebrating the first book birthday of another. November is nice and quiet, but December has high hopes for the release of Elven Games and another book fair. Next year, I already have 4 events lined up, and plans to publish at least 2 more books.

What is the biggest obstacle you face as an author and what do you do to overcome it?
Procrastination is my biggest obstacle, closely followed by marketing. The first one I don’t have a solution to yet, but the second one I’m working on. No time like the present to try marketing tips.

What is the best writing advice you’ve ever received? Who was it from?
The best advice I ever received was to set myself up with the beginning to the next scene before I walk away from the story. This makes it so much easier for me to begin the next day. I don’t remember who told me that, but it stuck with me.

What is the worst writing advice you’ve ever received?
You have to grow lizard skin. No you don’t. Criticism can be given in a manner that is doesn’t have to sting so bad you need lizard skin to receive it. Everyone needs negative criticism to grow. It’s just all in the delivery.

What are you working on now? Do you have any upcoming releases we should watch for?
My newest release is October 26, the second collection of horror stories focused on the supernatural and paranormal. I’m working on Elven Games and having it released in December or January, and slowly inking away at that huge unfinished pile I have. I have started planning the 3rd collection for Halloween 2019 as well.

What are your current WIPs about?
They are fantasy. Tribba runs a B&B for her dwarven village. Her customers are going to the fancier elven castle next door instead. She challenges them to the Elven Games, in hopes to get rid of them once and for all.

Catching Dragons is the conclusion of Edgar’s story, the human who champions Tribba for her first two games. He must defeat the dragon queen Soren and save his kingdom.

The Destiny Defined trilogy follows River’s journey to collect five magical relics, connect them with their matching gemstones, then destroy them before Rtharo gains all his strength and takes them. It;s an epic fantasy series that happens in the world of Savania across several generations.

What do you have going on in the next 6 months? Can provide awesome author events, book releases, etc.
October 21 I’ll be doing an author meet and greet and signing at The Book Loft of German Village in Columbus.

In December, I have a local book fair where I’ll be signing books. I also hope to release Elven Games in late December or early January.

In late March, I’ll be in Lexington, KY for the Lexington Legendary Book Bash, and in April I’ll be at the Dayton Book Fair in Ohio. That’s all I have lined up for the next 6 months currently but that could change as I am always looking for new places to show my face.

Do you have any advice for other authors?
I do. I always like to share the whole start the next scene bit, but also, don’t be intimated by the blank page. It only takes one letter, one word to defeat it.

Do you have anything specific you’d like to say to your readers?
Without my readers, my stories wouldn’t be alive. Thank you for breathing life into my stories and making them real.

This interview is done and we have so much more to enjoy with this feature. In a few you will get a special sneak peek into Stephanie’s WIP Elven Games. This sneak peek will be unedited since it hasn’t begun its editing journey just yet. But, here is another fun excerpt for you from Stephanie’s up coming release, The 13: Tales of Macabre.

The 13 Macabre_ Never Never

WIP SNEAK PEEK: ELVEN GAMES

“What are you doing?” Edgar asked.
“Strange things have been afoot, so I’m making you a protection elixir.” Tribba said, the words rolling off her tongue distractedly.
“You do all this yet you need me to champion you?” Edgar said. His voice held a twinge of accusation. Perhaps he had strange dreams, too.
“Yes. See this book?” Tribba picked it up and waved it in front of him. It was the same book they used to banish the werewolves.
Edgar nodded.
“If I didn’t have this book, I wouldn’t…no, I couldn’t…be doing this now. I am not a magical dwarf. Every spell I’ve tried to concoct from imagination has backfired drastically. Hence I married a greeter dwarf and became a greeter myself.”
Edgar’s eyes widened at Tribba’s revelation. Suddenly, it became clear how Tribba understood him so well. She, too, had felt an embarrassment to her people. He walked around the kitchen and gathered both of her hands in his. When she turned to him, he looked straight into her eyes.
“Until this moment, I haven’t understood why you chose me and why you had so much faith in me. Thank you for sharing that with me. I won’t dwell on the past anymore and will embrace this challenge with all of my being. If you can believe in me, so can I.” His chest puffed out as he finished. “I am your champion and I will win.”
Tribba smiled in response to Edgar’s words. She had waited weeks to hear confidence in his voice. The timing was perfect as the games were scheduled to begin in a fortnight. She thought back briefly over the boy who had wandered to her front door and considered the man he had become almost overnight. Whether he won or lost no longer mattered. She knew she had played an important role in the future, whatever that may be. She had strengthened a man she knew would matter someday. She had instilled self worth in someone who would save the world someday. If that was her legacy to this life, she would die a complete, happy woman.
“Take your tunic off and turn around, Edgar. You mustn’t see what I am doing.
Edgar did as instructed, turning his back to her. She dipped her hands into the cauldron and let the liquid within cover her hands. She waved them in the air, faster than the eye could see. When she stepped away, the liquid soaked through Edgar’s tunic and dripped onto his boots.
Edgar turned around, a look of curiosity and apprehension on his face. “What did you do, Tribba? I suddenly feel…” He chewed his lower lip as he searched for the words, “…infallible, undefeatable, and incredibly brave. I feel as if I could slay a dozen dragons with my bare hands!”
Tribba merely smiled in response. “It’s time for breakfast. Let’s eat,” she said, skirting around his question with ease.

#WIP Monday – Changes to the System

This month has been hectic so far and once again another Monday has come. If you didn’t notice last week I missed my Monday post. Sad to say I have been sick all week along with my boy Zeek. He is running around like nothing is wrong but Friday I broke down and went to urgent care. Found out I had an ear infection; good news they gave me awesome drugs. Still took all weekend and still feel somewhat like crap, but able to think enough to get things done.

Now I have been struggling with writing due to being sick. I got Bonds of Friendship up on pre-order today to go out in my newsletter. If you remember my goals I posted at the beginning of the month I have put a slight dent in them if you forgot here they are again. Let’s see how I’m measuring up with half the month almost gone, shall we?

My Goals for October:

  1. Publish “Bonds of Friendship” story #3 in the Tales of Ferrês series. Included with this is the following:
    1. Finish designing the book cover (Done)
    2. Finish writing the story (Still Working On)
    3. Edit it and get it up for Pre-Order once the cover is done (Half Done)
    4. Get Promo graphics made
  2. Get the rough done for The Celestial One episode one.
  3. Work on Tarzinëa’s outline and world building
  4. Write the next story in the Tales of Ferrês series – this would be #4
  5. Don’t go nuts with all the promos and events going on :). (Still is a big possibility)

WHAT’S NEW

Things have changed drastically over the last two weeks. I minimized my projects with my flash fiction tales. Instead of doing four a month I now am only doing two. On the first of each month I will feature one on my blog and I will feature the other on the 25th as a special VIP Reader benefit. I have discontinued this benefit on my Patreon page, sorry but I changed things up. Now if you are wondering it means that I will now send out two newsletters a month. However, the 25th will just be a story with some added items at the bottom and the 15th send out will be my ramblings.

Another big item that changed is my banners across my social media and my newsletter sites. I plan on doing an update with banners on my website soon. Overall, that is the only items that are new you didn’t know about.

Till next week I leave you with these awesome promos and insights into events still going on this month.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW w/ Lyndsey Rose Harper

Welcome back to my Friday Author Spotlight. Today, I’m sitting down with debut author, Lyndsey Rose Harper. Tomorrow her first book in her Evos Saga, “Clandestine” will hit Kindle Unlimited. Yes, you heard right her first book is hitting October 6, 2018. But that’s not all, she is also hosting a big release party over on Facebook. Being the awesome author she is, Lyndsey has a line-up of authors helping host her event.

LYNDSEYHARPER_2018_EVENTBANNERI’m one of those lucky authors, so come join us tomorrow to celebrate this new release! But, first lets get to know Lyndsey by asking her a few questions before we rush over to Facebook. 🙂

THE INTERVIEW!

Tell us a little bit about yourself and why you decided to become a writer?
I have been writing ever since I can remember. As a child, my next-door neighbor was the recipient of my earliest works, a newsletter about rabbits. Every month, I would write and compile a new newsletter for her. When my mom realized what I was doing, she provided me with notebooks and pencils. From there, stories of fairies and cats were born. I eventually transitioned into very early forms of fan fiction (pre-Internet days) of my favorite shows, then “official” fan fiction (on the Internet — because the Internet makes everything official), then into original crime-related stories. Now, my works involve the supernatural and speculative themes.

I don’t honestly know if I ever “decided to become” a writer. It was an extension of who I was, and who I am now. It was natural for me. As a kid, if I didn’t write, I wasn’t quite sure how to entertain myself. I loved reading comprehension, and would complete workbooks for leisure. I think writing (and possibly the Thug Life) chose me, to be honest. There was a long period of time where I resisted the idea of doing it professionally, but my mother always knew I’d end up here. And I can still hear her telling me, “I told you so!”

How often do you write? Do you have a page/word count? Do you set goals for yourself? Tell us a bit about your writing and how you keep things going.
I prefer to think of myself as a Spastic Writer. I’m not one who has a fancy app to keep track of words (wut r werdz). I suck at those cute little Instagram challenges that make you do something every day. And when I do write, I don’t really set goals. My days are usually wacky, my writing sessions unpredictable, and Netflix will always be my Achilles heel. TL;DR: Don’t model your writing life off of me. Or any part of your life, really.

How long does it take you to write a novel?
It honestly varies. I’ve written “books” in as short as a month’s time, and then some have taken over three years. “Clandestine” took approximately six months to produce the first draft, with over 60% of it written on my iPhone.

What are your goals as an author? Where do you see yourself in five years?
I’m honestly not the kind of person who can easily view myself a year into the future, let alone five. For my writing, I’d like to regularly sell books to people who enjoy them, and broaden my catalog into the double digits. It might be cool to know that someone wrote a fan fiction about my work (just no Fifty Shades stuff, please). Maybe attend a convention and sit on a panel with one of those little name plaque thingies. And hopefully I’ll have an updated computer by then.

Does your family support you in your writing, or are you on your own?
My family is extremely supportive, and I can never be grateful enough. My husband is a real trooper, and my daughter gives me encouragement to keep writing through her own love of reading. This book is dedicated to my late mother, who knew I would become a writer well before I did, and she remains my inspiration for my work.

Have you ever had a particularly harsh critique? How did you handle it?
My writing journey has been far from spotless. I’ve had pieces I’ve written torn (literally) up in front of me. When you work as a writer, you have a choice to make–develop a thick skin, or fail to learn from opportunities that are out there. Critiques are important to me. I value people who take the time to professionally review my work, and offer me their insight. As a writer, if you aren’t open to being wrong, or to outside suggestion, you will never grow in your craft. Criticism isn’t easy, but absolutely necessary in a writer’s career.

Do you write in first or third person, past or present tense, and why?
I tend to write in the third person, past tense. I’ve been told my writing style is very masculine, as well as more “cinematic” in structure. I like to pop around to show people what’s happening, without giving too much away.

Do you ever base your characters on people you know?
Oh hell yeah. People I know, people I don’t … the random lady in the grocery store, my co-workers, my friend’s friend, and people on Instagram (and more) have all inspired me.

Do you write about real life experiences, or does everything come from your imagination?
I like to write stories that are set in the present day with relatable experiences, but weaving in ideas of the fantastic or the unknown to make you second guess what you think is an ordinary part of life.

What was the biggest obstacle you faced while writing your latest book?
I only touched on it a little in this first book, but the series as a whole challenges me to write concepts that are so deeply ingrained into our culture into a completely fresh light. How I’ve chosen to portray things may make some people upset (traditionalists), which I struggled with at first. In the end, though, the story must be told.

Another interview down, but their is still fun to be had! You see that large banner up-top of this post? Go click it to be taken to the Release Party FB page! But wait! Before you leave lets see a juicy sneak peek from Lyndsey’s “Clandestine”.

EXCERPT: “CLANDESTINE”

Cara skidded to a stop, training her Glock on him. “H.P.D.! Get on the ground!” She held firm as she panted hard, trying to catch her breath as the man turned to her. Physically, he fit the description she received from Oleander’s neighbor. Tall, built, muscular. He had a thick head of shaggy chocolate hair that rustled in the whipping wind. His angular jaw was covered in dark stubble that crept up his cheeks. Still, she was unprepared for his blue eyes; they focused on hers with extraordinary vehemence. Even with the distance, ferocity radiated off of every part of his body, a fiery aura surrounding him.

Gritting her molars together, she stepped closer, her gun pointed at him. “Hands behind your head. On the ground.” She waited as he slowly complied, his eyes still trained on her until he laid on this stomach on the roof. The cold air whipped over Cara’s face as she watched him, her gloved hands tight on her weapon. “Lace your fingers,” she ordered, watching as he did what was asked.

“Try anything, and I’ll shoot.” She moved over him quickly, slapping her cuffs on him, one wrist at a time. He remained statuesque, his breath deep and even as she pulled him up to stand.

His eyes.

Up close, his stare was even more unsettling. It nearly felt like a personal violation, as if his gaze could excavate her very mind. He had no definitive smell, and despite how his body felt unnaturally warm, she suppressed a shiver from coming into contact with it. Her stomach sank as she studied him, sickened by a strange, unshakable feeling:

They were the eyes of someone she once knew.

Someone she once loved.

LYNDSEY ROSE HARPER

41317807_311633819611883_8098349677730070528_nLyndsey is a brilliant author you’ve never heard of, Superwife, and award-winning mother living life in jeggings in the expensive and overcrowded state of New Jersey. She is fluent in Spanglish and Sarcasm and enjoys watching Supernatural, Arrow, Psych, and The X-Files repeatedly.

You can find her either in the grocery store buying laundry detergent, Tylenol, and cat litter, hovering near her Keurig coffee brewer, or shaking her fist at the heavens in front of her computer. Occasionally, you may spot her on the beach or out shopping (when she actually has money to spare). However, you should avoid approaching her at such times as she is likely enjoying a rare moment of relaxation and can become moody if interrupted. If you decide to engage her during any one of these activities, approach with caution and a sizable cup of Starbucks in hand to avoid any ill effects.

#WIP Monday – Changes to the System

The journey with my WIPs don’t seem to go the way I plan them. I keep making weekly goals and realize that it might be best to do a different set-up for how I do my goals. This is why I’m switching my weekly goals to monthly goals. Hoping this will help me get more accomplished and feel less like a failure when life gets in the way.

This change will start today Oct. 1st and I will still do weekly posts to keep you in the loop on things that are new or writing I have accomplished. Hoping this helps get things going more and shortens my posts each week. The first #WIP Monday post of each month I will update you all on promos and events happening for that month. I will have that information below for October.

My Goals for October:

  1. Publish “Bonds of Friendship” story #3 in the Tales of Ferrês series. Included with this is the following:
    1. Finish designing the book cover
    2. Finish writing the story
    3. Edit it and get it up for Pre-Order once the cover is done
    4. Get Promo graphics made
  2. Get the rough done for The Celestial One episode one.
  3. Work on Tarzinëa’s outline and world building
  4. Write the next story in the Tales of Ferrês series – this would be #4
  5. Don’t go nuts with all the promos and events going on :).

NIGHTMARE OF FILTHAS DENGOTTA

It’s October and I thought I would start the month off with a bang. This flash fiction tale will be featuring the evil cursed villain, Filthas Dengotta. In this tale I will share a bit about his power and the blackness he spreads just by a single touch. Hope you enjoy this tale and helps get you into the Halloween spirit. 🙂

He looked out over the hall. It was centuries since he last seen the sunshine through stainless glass windows. Sometimes I wonder if those times ever existed beyond this hell that Bitch cursed me too! Filthas glared at the images dancing across the floor, bright with their beauty. Wolves, rabbits, horses, soldiers, and beautiful flowers pranced around the room bringing delight and merriment to all that viewed its wonder, except him.

“Ye enjjjoying the sccccenery, me Llllord?” asked a weak voice. Filthas turned to the scrawny boy hovering in the doorway. The lad looked sickly and worn to the bone. Doesn’t sound too bright neither. The lad hesitated then crept his way into the room. He sneered at the lad making him shake in fear.

“The happy animals, they disgust me! What do they have to be happy about? They are just food for my belly.” Filthas crossed his arms contemplating the best way to deal with this unrest. This place is too damn cheary for my taste where is the death and decay? You think the fool Marthred would know this place would infuriate me. Apparently, the imbecile doesn’t know my background too well. I will have to remedy that next time I see him. The sound of the lad’s whimpered response drew him back to the moment at hand “oh…”

“What’s the matter, boy! You like the little animals?” The disgust rang true through his words as he turned his red eyes on the lad. His fiery eyes full of hate watched the lad look longingly at the pictures emulating off the floor, “Yessss.”

A few moments passed in silence as emotions fought for control of his mind. He couldn’t decide if he wanted to destroy the beautiful dwarven glass windows or paint the floor with the lad’s blood. “What’s your name, boy?”

The lad looked up. Filthas watched the color fade from the boys face as he locked eyes with the fires of hell that were his eyes. “Well, you deaf or just plain stupid!” Fear prompted the lad to speak, “Scccottttieee.”

Chuckling Filthas let his skeletal smile scrape across his face. “Well, Scottie how about we have a game of sport? Go catch me a rabbit and I’ll show you a trick of mine.”

Scottie hesitated looking at him with questions written across his face. Filthas found himself intrigued by the young lad. Scottie must have known he couldn’t get out of doing what Filthas asked. “Umm yessss, me Llllord I’ll go fetccch ye a rabbittt.”

Filthas watched in amusement as the fifteen-year-old lad ran out of the room. If only he knew what he was getting himself into. Filthas continued to look around the room. This place needs darkness and blood I believe. He was musing about how he could make this lovely environment more dark and home feeling. The clatter of feet on the floor drew his attention to the door as Scottie came running through.

“I gotttt ye tttthe ra ra rabitttt like ye assssk me Llllord” Between the stammer and the heavy breathing Filthas scolded from the headache the idiot caused. The lad would be better without his tongue wouldn’t cause so much strife with that idiot speech. He pushed past the discomfort the boy’s words caused. “Good. I was wondering if you had the brains enough to catch one.”

Scottie cringed at the insult. Apparently, the little town idiot has a brain to register an insult at least. Filthas pulled off his glove and admired his hand. He always hated looking at himself in the daylight. When the sun hit him he showed his true form, the form of death. Filthas could see the chunks of skin falling off the bone leaving nothing but a bare skeleton behind. “Hand me the rabbit boy,” he ordered.

Scottie looked at his hand and gulped. “Masssster Martttthred sssssaid notttt tttto ttttoucccch ye hannnnd me Lllllord.”

“Oh, did he now,” Filthas growled. “Did the Lord of Idiots tell you not to hand me anything either!” His voice echoed off the stone walls and the innocent bunny thrashed in fear within the small bag Scottie was holding. Scottie shook his head. “Well boy, hand me the damn rabbit!”

Scottie whimpered as he handed Filthas the rabbit. It’s like he knows what will happen without ever witnessing it firsthand. “Tell me Scottie, did Marthred tell you why to fear my touch?” Filthas tilted his head holding the rabbit in his gloved hand watching the fear fill its eyes. These stupid animals know when death is upon them. He watched the boy squirm till his amusement shriveled up like a dead corpse. “Nooo…”

“Adorable little creatures rabbits are,” he mused. “So, sad that they are so fragile.” Filthas took his skeleton hand and gently poked the rabbit on the nose. Just a touch is all it takes for this curse to claim anything within my grasp. Moments passed within a small breath of time till the rabbit screamed a death scream, thrashing till blackness seeped into its veins. Once a beautiful brown fluff of fur now turned into a blackened corpse with the pain of fear and death etched into its face.

“Whatttt yeeee do me Llllord!” Scottie cried.

He laughed hysterically at the boy’s distress. “My touch is death!” Filthas pulled his dagger from its sheath gracing his hip and gutted the rabbit splattering black blood and guts across the floor. His laughter filled the halls as darkness took the light from the room. Even the stupid windows knew better than to challenge his blackened hands.

When the windows that once were bright and beautiful were tainted black by his magic he relaxed. The room became dark as night even though the sun shone bright outside the blacked now decayed windows. He tossed the lifeless rabbit at Scottie’s feet. He found himself extremely amused at the boys tear filled face. “Get out of my site you’re human emotions disgust me!”

“Yessss, me Llllord” Scottie whispered.

It didn’t take long for the boy to scurry out of the room. Awww, the pain and suffering of others is beautiful, it almost makes me want to cry. He yelled after the boy, “stammer in my presence again you imbecile you will face the rabbits fate, Scottieeeee!” The mockery in his voice range through the halls and he laughed with glee.

#WIP Monday – A New Release, Author Event, & Just Plain Bleh

It was another week of crazy around this house. I had things going on all fronts last week between family, author events, and trying to find time to write. Did I get anything done last week towards my goals… not really!

The week started off good but with a new release I found myself distracted. I had to get my monthly newsletter out to subscribers and do another one for the AOTA event. It didn’t mesh well, ended up with 4 emails going out in a week due to my automation system, set-up for new sign-ups. I went into my newsletter automation and restructured the duration between each email sent. Think the spacing is better and will work out towards not causing this issue again, she prays hopefully :). If it comes down to it when I take part in events outside my usual newsletter schedule I will shut down the automation and kick it back on after it is all over.

The new release of An Elf, a Dragon, and a God’s Intervention went good, at least for a short story. Right now my goals aren’t fully on sales yet, I’m just trying to find my audience. Since I had the new release, I didn’t finish my edits for the next flash fiction tale scheduled for the 20th to my Patreon page. Ended up rescheduling the post for tomorrow and still have to finish the editing.

If you haven’t joined my street team, Gods Among Men you should. Last week I posted some interesting excerpts from my two published short stories: A Father’s Protection and An Elf, a Dragon, and a God’s Intervention, with awesome graphics. Another awesome post I did was a part of my Tuesday Legend/Myths of Tarzinëa, the topic was kyres. Did an in-depth background on how these shape-shifters were born and why. Also, included information on their abilities and overall powers. You can click here to join my street team and get awesome insights into my WIP.

As for my writing pretty much what I stated above is about what I got done so far. This is why once again I will drag over the same writing goals for next week. Pray that this time I can get things going, top priority will be to push out Karigan and Silvashi’s story to get it over to Allison for editing. If I want to keep on a monthly schedule with the short stories, I don’t have a choice in this matter. I have a rough idea of what I want for the next story in the series, so I might try to rough that out, too.

Goals for last week, the prior week and now next week:

  1. Work on Tarzinëa’s Timeline.
  2. Write another chapter for Episode One in The Celestial One season.
  3. Edit my flash fiction tales and get them scheduled up to November.
  4. Write up Karigan and Silvashi’s story for the next installment in the Tales of Ferrês series.

WHAT’S NEW!

This week I have a few items that are new. One you already know about since it is my new release, An Elf, a Dragon, and a God’s Intervention. The other top item to address is A Father’s Protection it is now a permafree story at all digital retailers except Amazon. I’m still working on Amazon to get it switched over.

The next thing that has changed is my mailing list sign-up. Before I used to offer A Father’s Protection free to new subscribers. Now you can get An Elf, a Dragon, and a God’s Intervention free now for signing up.

The last new items on the list for the week are my promo materials I created this morning for my Facebook Takeover event on author Tyffani Clark’s Facebook page. This event is why I am so late with my post for this week. Spent my entire morning and several hours of my afternoon working on posting, commenting, and snooping around. You can thank this event for my new Goodreads author page. I wasn’t planning on setting one up but now I did because I wanted to enter a giveaway. Yes, even I want to win free books :).

So, it was an off week with trying to do hundreds of things at once. I didn’t succeed in my writing goals but kept up with my commitments. Heres to a another week and hoping for the best.

#WIP Monday – It’s Been Crazy!!!

Last week was hectic. I found myself split several directions between family, writing, and designing covers. Overall, I got a lot done last week just not much with my writing. These were my goals last week:

  5. Send out my first newsletter and start thinking about what I will do for my upcoming online events.

Each week I do a post in my Street Team featuring a myth or legend from my world Tarzinëa, last week I did it on the Elven Goddess, Salza. I thought doing these posts would take away from my writing time, however it helps more than I want to admit. These posts give me a reason to write and work on my world building. At least then I know some kind of work is being done.

Last week I struggled with writing. It seemed my brain was more in designer mode. This isn’t that bad since I pushed out six pre-made covers and got a good sale from one. Overall, I wish I spent more time writing but when I am trying to do everything myself it gets complicated.

Been trying to get noticed more in the writing community, so I’ve been signing up for events, newsletter swaps and taking part in groups. Then trying to figure out Instagram is another can of worms. I set my Instagram up for my design business so far, but I plan to set one up eventually for my author platform. Just another social platform to take up more of my time. It will be nice to work towards being able to hire a PA to do this all.

I am changing up my schedule, used to have Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for writing. Then the other days were for designing with the weekends being family time. I realized I have free time more during the weekend so I will switch my days around. Mondays will be my day for social media posting, setting up blog posts, and planning out my newsletters/content for events. Then Tuesdays, Thursdays and anytime on the weekends will be for writing. The other days I will work on designing covers or working them into my schedule when more clients sign up for services.

When it comes for next weeks goals, I think I will stick with the same ones from last week with a few changes. My goals for next we are:

WHAT’S NEW!

I believe this week I have little new besides getting my first newsletter sent out to my subscribers. If you’re not signed up for my newsletter, you can check it out here. You can sign up here to get my short story, A Father’s Protection free.

There was an update to my FREE PROMOTION’S page. I switched up how I do things with my forms to make it easier for authors to sign-up for my Friday Author Spotlights. You’ll have the choice between four types of spotlight features: Basic Author Spotlight, Guest Post Spotlight, Author Interview and Character Interview. If you are interested, you can check out more details here.

Plan to add a new feature to my site hoping to get myself reading more. The idea is to list my to-read list of books and when I mark them off the list, I will post a review on my blog and several other locations. Right now I am growing my list and have it getting longer. I enjoy fantasy and pretty much any sub-category genre within it. If you want to make suggestions add your suggestions below.

Hopefully, things will go better next week with my writing till next time :). Happy reading and writing ya’ll.

Don’t Kill the Monk!!!

He sat there next to the lake looking out over the shimmering water. Rikkin found himself waiting longer than he liked. But, he didn’t have much choice in the matter. He had to wait for the appropriate time for his brother to contact him.

The sun rose over the lake marking mid-day. Rikkin stood up and paced to get feeling back into his stiff limbs. “Damn I’m getting too old for this.”

“That’s what being stuck in a rock for 3,000 years does to you!”

Rikkin grunted turning around seeing the reflection of his younger brother looking back at him. He knelt down to get a stronger read on his brother’s location. Roülle looked worse than he did. The poor fool looks dead on his fit. There were shadows under his eyes and dirt smeared a crossed his face. If he looks this bad, I wonder how the monk is faring. “How are the roads treating you little brother?”

“This world sucks! I swear every time I turn around there are bandits or people ruder than hell expecting me to get out of their way. In our time this crap wouldn’t happen…”

Rikkin watched the wild fire blaze to life in his brother’s eyes. He always gets so emotional. “This world has changed since our time amongst it. People have forgotten our kind and don’t show respect to anyone unless they wear the marks of nobility or have wealth.”

“Just be patient and try not to go nuts on anyone,” Rikkin said.

Roülle glared back at him and snapped, “I wouldn’t have to deal with this if I could just shift to the King’s side. But, no… I have to travel with this damn Monk!” The hostility radiating off Roülle created a red glow around his watery reflection.

“Calm yourself you are acting a damn fool.” Roülle snorted in response. If I was there, I would punch him into the abyss and back. He wouldn’t be acting so damn stupid. What do I have to do hold his damn hand because he wants to do everything the easy way?

“I’ll make no promises.” Roülle turned away, the sound of cracking twigs and rustling in the brush filled the air. The reflection faded for a second as silence took hold. Rikkin gripped his knee waiting to see if his brother would return. Every moment is precious and every second they waste using their magic draws more attention to them. “It’s just the damn Monk, apparently we need to get back on the road.”

He sighed in relief letting the tension fade away. “Be careful and do your best not to do something stupid that gets you killed. Okay?”

A smirk inched its way across his brother’s face. “Like I said Brother, I’ll make no promises. But, if the Monk keeps stopping to help every dang person in need, there will be hell to pay.”

“Remember… “

“Yeah! I no! Don’t kill the Monk,” Roülle snapped.

“You need to keep him alive! He has a purpose in the war to come…”

“I’ll keep him alive! Don’t worry…” Roülle smiled back at him. “Worry about your own mission Rikkin. Last time I checked I didn’t have a headstrong woman to deal with.”

He wasn’t wrong about that Kero was turning out to be a difficult student to train. I don’t know if she is ready for this responsibility, but hopefully with time she will change. Breaking the connection Rikkin left behind his brother and returned to his own task. It was up to him to get Kero ready for the hell this war was bringing and it looked like it was coming faster than expected. “Karigan I pray you picked the right person that is strong enough to carry this giant burden.”

#WIP Monday – Diamond in the Rough

Last week I made several writing goals and life officially sucked this last week. I will explain more in a second. These were my goals last week:

  1. Finish writing Tarzinëa’s timeline. (This one’s going to be hard because I am stuck on a war background. I can’t decide if I want the enemy to be a dragon that wants to destroy humanity or a sorcerer that takes command of the armies of darkness.
  2. Start rewriting Book 1’s outline for Tarzinëa.
  3. I need to write up a book blurb for “An Elf, A Dragon, and a God’s Intervention,” then get that up on pre-order.
  4. The Celestial One – I am going to aim to write another chapter in the serial.
  5. Need to start thinking about the next story to be featured in the Tales of Ferrês series. (Been playing with the idea of going back to Queen Karigan’s time and share how she met Silvashi. You don’t know him yet but he is the King of Dragons the only silver dragon to ever exist.)

This last week I was all over the place. I got nothing done, between babysitting my youngest niece and having two teething babies; I’m lucky I didn’t go nuts. The only one I accomplished on the list above was #3.

I spent last night and this morning writing up the synopsis for An Elf, a Dragon, and a God’s Intervention. This story was a royal pain in the a**, however with the help of a fellow author friend I got it done. Now I can tell you that is up for Pre-Order and scheduled for release on September 20.

Now I can either drone on about my unfulfilling week or I can just jump to my next weeks writing goals and wipe my hands clean. I think the second choice is the best option, don’t you?

My next weeks writing goals:

  5. Send out my first newsletter and start thinking about what I will do for my upcoming online events.

I am hoping to have a better week this time around. It is still up in the air with Zeek having teething issues every day. Wish me luck :).

WHAT’S NEW!

Last week I spent way too much of my time writing up an automation system for my new newsletter. This is one reason I got nothing else done. I finished this project, and it is ready for action it is just waiting for you to sign-up :). Right now all new subscribers get A Father’s Protection free, so there is a bonus.

What’s next? Hmmm… guess it would be my new page on my website. Thanks to a few groups on Facebook I am taking part in several Facebook TakeOver Events and Newsletter Swaps. This made making an event page important. You can go here to see any of my current or upcoming events, and I will include links if they are still looking for additional members.

Oh, this is big! This last week I was doing a lot of snooping around trying to find different ways to promote my works as I publish them. I found several awesome resources. On Wednesday I will do a post about my findings and how you can get free author promotion from these different places. Keep your eyes peeled for that post or **she coughs**, you can get free author promotion here on my blog :). Author spotlights get featured every Friday but they only happen if you sign-up.

The horrors of formatting and uploading just a short story is a nightmare. I took all morning submitting and re-submitting this one story because the formatting always was slightly off, but An Elf, a Dragon, and a God’s Intervention is now up for pre-order. You can pre-order your copy by this universal link, stores are still being added as Draft2Digital works on getting it submitted to all the retailers. I still need to get it up on Smashwords manually so that will be a project for tomorrow.

Today overall was a big day. I got my latest story up for pre-order and released my first patron exclusive flash fiction tale featuring Filthas Dengotta. This tale is by far more gruesome and vulgar than my others. It is adult content only and anyone under 14 should get permission from their parents beforehand. I posted an excerpt here, but to get the full tale you can sign-up to be a patron member for as little as $2 a month.

Now after writing this all out I realize I got a lot done last week. I even thought today was an unfulfilling day and now realize I got a lot done. So, there is a diamond in the rough when you look at it closer. Till next week, wish you luck writing :).

#WIP Monday – Tarzinëa Pitfall

Last week I made several writing goals and even though I didn’t accomplish them all in their entirety, I am happy with my accomplishments. These were my goals last week:

  1. Get through my #AMA event alive.
  2. Continue transferring over Tarzinëa’s notes into Scrivener.
  3. Work more on The Celestial One’s outline and notes.
  4. If possible write 5k in any WIP.
  5. Need to get the cover designed for my short story, An Elf, A Dragon, and a God’s Intervention.

My #AMA went good I ended with over 40 questions and 92 comments, if I remember right. It was an awesome interaction based interview platform that made things more personable with those submitting questions. This #AMA wasn’t all about my writing this time around but it balanced out with my design questions for my side business, KJ Magical Designs.

Overall, I had a good experience and will try doing more #AMA events again. Not sure what topic I will do next time, perhaps I will do a writing one on my WIP, Tarzinëa.

I think with this post I will go with my success stories first for my goals then do the pitfalls last. You already know how the #AMA went, so lets get the next one out of the way. The next item I accomplished was #5 on the list. I got my cover done for my next short story in the Tales of Ferrês series. I released the cover on Friday in a cover reveal post if you missed it I have it here for you to enjoy.

JENKINS_EDGI_2018_EBOOK_LR

It is an awesome cover it surprised me how easy it was to put this one together compared to “A Father’s Protection”. It was like Blake and Meisha jumped out at me in the images I used.

Since we are on the topic of specific characters, I might as well update you on Tarzinëa. My process of transferring files over into Scrivener was going well, till I realized the chaos I created within my hard drive. I spent an entire day organizing files between my design business and my writing files. It wasn’t an easy task and I am still finding things that need reorganized. I sadly only got through half my files of Tarzinëa and realized I have to do a complete rewrite of my chapters I completed already, along with world notes, timelines, and so much more. I have put writing on hold for this WIP to get things shipshape.

Now my other goals were wishful thinking. I got no real writing done this last week besides rewriting a flash fiction tale featuring King Tyler that I posted on my blog Saturday. You can check it out here. I also wrote individual pieces I featured in my street team. It is a closed group for those interested in taking part in spreading word about my WIP, publications and learning about my worlds as I create them. If you want to join, you can here. I feature legends/myths of Tarzinëa on Tuesdays and sneak peeks on Thursdays. I plan to share deleted scenes from my series, so there will be lots of fun to experience besides helping with the boring promotions. I plan to offer free copies to those interested in receiving ARCs or doing reviews in exchange.

The Celestial One, didn’t get worked on last week. As stated above I was drowning in the mess, I created by not organizing my files right the first time. I have paid the price and will now spend days fixing the mess I created.

Wish me luck with this weeks writing goals, which are:

WHAT’S NEW!

This week I have a new cover for my short story, “An Elf, A Dragon, and a God’s Intervention.” I already shared it above so I won’t do it again here.

The next item that is new is my author spotlights page. I changed things up and now will feature Speculative Fiction authors on Fridays. They can write within paranormal romance, fantasy and the sub-genres of fantasy to get featured on my blog. If you believe you would fit within the genre guidelines and would like a spotlight, you can sign-up here.

Either than that I have little of anything else that is new relating to my writing. So I will leave you with a howdy do and wish you an awesome week. Wish me luck mucking through the chaos of the filthy swamp of files.
