Interview with Reecah Draakvriend

Omg…it’s Monday again. Anyone else feel like rolling over and praying the weekend started over again. Well anyway to get the week started I am sitting down with Reecah Draakvriend, from Fantasy author Richard H. Stephens books Reecah’s Flight and his upcoming release Reecah’s Gift. Hope you will enjoy this sit down I sure did.

The Interview

Who are you and what makes you great?

I am Reecah Draakvriend, a simple girl from a small fishing village on the western coast of the Great Kingdom. As far as special, I don’t think I am special at all, but those in the know claim that I am the last of the dragon friends who used to be known as Windwalkers.

What is your soul purpose in life?

I grew up wanting to follow in my grandfather’s footsteps and join the dragon hunt. Due to a chance encounter with a baby dragon, my purpose has now changed. I have made it my life’s goal to save dragonkind from extinction, or die in the attempt.

What kind of adventures have you had that stay with you till this day?

I once tried to enlist with the dragon hunt, but that didn’t end well. I have also been the subject of a witch’s experiments, and although terrifying at the time, they have made me realize who I am. I also ventured into the Dragon Temple, deep inside an active volcano and lived to tell about it,

Do you have a love interest? If you do please tell us about him/her or why you don’t.

That’s a tough one. I have been an outcast and a loner my entire life so forming a bond with other people doesn’t come naturally to me. There is one person who makes me feel all strange inside, but his family and mine aren’t on good terms.

Tell us about your journey you are on and how it has helped you grow as a person.

I am on a personal quest to save the dragons from a tyrannical king. My goal is to somehow get an audience in front of him to enlighten him on what a bad idea his dragon campaign is. Unfortunately, for someone as low born as I am, getting an audience with the high king of the greatest realm, is nothing more than a pipe dream.

What kind of creatures do you see on a daily basis?

Dragons! I have befriended 4 dragons who accompany me on my journey. I also travel with an elf, a dwarf, and perhaps my favourite friend of all, my raven, Raver.

Who do you look up too? Why?

My poppa. But he’s dead now. He always encouraged me to follow my dreams, despite what society thought.

If you had one thing about yourself that you would want to change what would it be?

My temper, for sure. Thus my inability to let the taunts of the other kids while growing up from bothering me. I’m not well liked because of the noses I have broken.

Who is your ultimate enemy? Why?

That is a tough one. High King J’kaar is definitely up there, as it is his edict that promotes the slaying of dragons, but his son, J’kwaad the dark heir is probably number 1. J’kwaad is the leader of the hunt. His magical abilities make him a formidable foe that no one wishes to go up against.

What should we expect from you in your coming book?

I venture into the bigger world and quickly learn how twisted it actually is. Being from a small town, the goings on are real eye openers. I will strive to better myself and become more confident in dealing with personalities that are larger than life. My temper will cause me problems, but hey, that’s who I am.

The Book

STEPHENS_2019_RG_EBOOK_150Fleeing from the only life she has ever known, Reecah Windwalker sets out to avert a terrible tragedy. One that will force the dragons to the edge of extinction. But first, Reecah must find herself.

Without the intervention of an eclectic warrior, and the assistance of her dragon friends, Reecah might never realize the gift so many died to protect.

Bridge of the Gods

Today I am featuring a book spotlight on C.J. Rose’s book ‘Bridge of the Gods’. She even shared a sneak peek too. So, please enjoy this feature and if you like it then please go snatch up a copy. Happy reading. 🙂

Excerpt

I close my eyes and try to imagine what it is that made my father gain the strength to follow through with what he needed to do. I’m not someone who prays, but this night I will. I drop upon my knees and let the cool breeze blow across my face. The smell of the animals mixed with that of night brings my senses alive for the first time. I stretch my hands out to my sides and open my palms to take it all in.

Gently, I feel the caress of someone’s hand insert into mine. Not looking up to see who it is, I slowly close my fingers around the soft instruments that are her fingers.

Just by the sound of her breathing I know exactly who it is. There is no way I’m ever letting her go, so together we kneel here, and one by one I can feel the presence of the Gods kneeling with me and joining hands.

It is then that I know what it is that my father had…Love. The courage doesn’t just come from him; it comes from everywhere, everyone, and everything. With that recollection, I stay there for only a moment more. When I open my eyes, I know the scene that I will see. Laid there before me are 7 of the most important people in my life at this moment. It makes me sad to know that this may be the last time that I will ever see this world again.

Slowly letting go of Gwen’s hand, I rise to face them all. “I need you to tell me what you overheard Aphrodite.”

Batting her lashes at Hephe she responds with one word. “Death.”

“What do you mean death?” I ask in shock as the others mumble amongst themselves.

“She plans to kill anyone who stands in her way. We may not as easily be threatened, but I fear that the lives of you and your guardian are in danger.”

“Tell me something we don’t know.” Enters Apollo’s saucy tone.

I let Aphrodite’s words sink in for just a second before making up my mind that it will not stop me. With one deep breath, I look at Hephe and let the two words roll off my tongue. “I’m ready.”

The passion for writing took root in high school where she began writing song lyrics and poetry. C.J. found her inspiration from other fantasy and YA novels such as Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, Chronicles of Narnia, and more. On top of literature, Rose has a keen love for all things nerdy and sci-fi. On a quiet night, you can find her curled up with an episode of Doctor Who, Arrow, Firefly, and more. C. J. also belongs to a theatre organization KVTA. The devotion to musicals and theatre has led her to be a part of over 10 shows as an actor, and over 20 as a staff person. I am a hairstylist, with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. I have always loved writing, whether it was poems, song lyrics or stories. I decided it was time to sit down and put my thoughts to paper of a story concept I have played with for long time. In the process, it developed into the full-length version that I am proud to call my first published book, Bridge of the Gods – A Generation Son Chronicle. Now I have 3 novels in the series as well as a companion cookbook.

Author Interview with Fantasy Author Richard H. Stephens

Happy Friday everyone! Hope you have a great day to start off your weekend. Today I am sitting down with Fantasy author Richard H. Stephens. We are going to get to know him and his books. So hang for the ride and lets get things going…

The Interview

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I started writing when I was 9. I began writing Soul Forge, my first epic fantasy story when I was 17, but never published it until I was 53.

What genre do you write in? Why?

I write epic fantasy because that is the genre I enjoy reading most. I love the freedom it gives you and the scope of imagination you can use to create eclectic characters, fantastical creatures and wondrous landscapes.

What does your daily life look like? What do you wish it was like?

I get up around 6am and check in on social media while I have a coffee and breakfast. Afterward, I will then fill out any outstanding interviews such as this one and follow that by editing the words I wrote yesterday. When the edits are done, I will go for a walk before settling into the day’s writing. I’m not a fast writer, so I generally strive for 2,000 words a day average. Some days I get over 3,000 while others I manage only 500 or so.

Tell us about your latest release?

Reecah’s Gift, is the second book in my epic fantasy dragon series, Legends of the Lurker. In book 2, we see the main character, Reecah, come into her own, acknowledging her heritage and striving to improve herself so that she may take on the high king in a desperate attempt to save dragonkind from extinction.

What is your writing process like?

Plot? What’s a plot? I’m what some call a pantser. I have the main character put one foot in front of the other and we discover their world and their story together. I must say, I am just as surprised as my characters when something untoward happens.

Do you have any strange quarks you do while you write a book?

Not really. I am a pretty simple person. I enjoy eating PEZ candy while writing, if that counts.

What authors inspired you to write your own book?

Terry Brooks and Stephen R. Donaldson. Their worlds and characters are absolutely amazing.

Who is your biggest support system in your life?

My wife, Caroline. She doesn’t even like fantasy and yet she is the first one to read the first draft, helping me improve it and she is the last one to read the final draft, weeding out those relentless, soul sucking typos that always find a way through to the finished product.

What are you reading right now?

Archmage by R.A. Salvatore, and Transformation Protocol by Canadian science fiction author, David M. Kelly,

What should we expect from you in the coming months?
Reecah’s Legacy, book 3 in the trilogy is already several chapters in and is scheduled for release mid-December. After that, I already have 5 more books on tap that I hope to complete by the end of 2020.

Excerpt

“You look hungry. Care for an apple?”
Wallas eyed the apple carefully as his stomach grumbled in complaint. Was this trickery or kindness? Forest dwellers were not known for their generosity. The woman still held the apple out, and he took it from her.
“I am not hungry now.” He turned the apple over and examined it. Its blood red skin teased of sweetness. “I daresay this will come in handy later in my return home.” He put the apple in his pocket and offered a small bow. “I am Wallas Eleasar, Counselor to King Teodric Wynne of Northend.”
The woman rose from the ground and offered a small curtsy back, spreading her patchwork skirt between her fingers. “I am Ulia MacDougal, daughter of Lord Alfrey.” She pointed to the trees on the east side of the city. “We live just beyond the treeline. My father is a farmer, we have many flowering and fruit-bearing trees under our care.” She sat back down and spread out a small blanket in front of her and pulled more fruit from the basket.
Wallas’ stomach gurgled in appreciation. He had not packed much food, nor expected to be refused entry into the Holy City. She had not invited him to join her, so he remained where he was. His instincts still screamed warnings, but he ignored them. It could be a product of his own fear that kept him from befriending someone who had been nothing but kind since they met.
She patted the center of the blanket in invitation. “Might as well eat while you’re waiting. Come on, I have plenty.” As if to prove her point, she held the basket up. Despite the array of fruit spread on the blanket—more apples, and oranges, pears, peaches—the basket overflowed.
Impossible, he thought, but his stomach interrupted. He cast his eyes to the trees on the east, hoping to catch sight of her father’s farm. Something, anything to assure him and put his sixth sense at ease, but he saw nothing. Don’t be impolite, his mind said. He sat on the ground across from Ulia but did not touch the fruit.
She shrugged her shoulders and picked up a peach. She bit into it and closed her eyes as juices ran from the corners of her mouth. “Mmm. I swear we grow the sweetest peaches on Savania!” He watched hungrily as she finished the meat and tucked the pit into her basket. She reached for another peach and held it out to him. “Peaches are my favorite. Are you sure you don’t want one?”
Wallas hesitantly accepted the peach. He looked it over carefully, not sure what he was looking for, but still suspicious. Ulia picked up an orange this time and began peeling it, observing him all the while. Laughter filled her eyes, and he relaxed a bit.
He took a bite from the peach, surprised to discover she was right. It was the sweetest peach he had ever tasted. “I’m sorry. Your hospitality is not unappreciated. It’s just hard to know who to trust these days. There are many in the forest who appear kind but would be just as quick to stab you in the back while you sleep.”
Ulia nodded. “Yes, and some might even poison the very same fruit they eat.”
Wallas’ face turned ashen. He looked at the peach again, almost completely gone, and set it down. His eyes rounded as his stomach complained again, this time not out of hunger. He retched once, twice, five times before his bowels quieted long enough for him to breathe. His face crinkled in distaste at the sickly sweetness that had filled his mouth. His stomach rumbled with the beginnings of another round.
Ulia wasted no time rushing to his side, a small knife drawn. As he fell backwards, she pulled her arm back, ready to strike.

Catching Dragons 9

Character Interview: Edgar Wynn

It’s hump day! The weekend is almost here and do I got a treat for you. This character interview with Edgar Wynn is special because his book comes out this Saturday, August 10th. So, to get you in the spirits to pre-order his awesome book check out his character interview below. Happy reading everyone :).

The Interview

Who are you and what makes you great?

My name is Edgar Wynn. I don’t consider myself great at anything. My four brothers are much better skilled at most things than I am.

What is your sole purpose in life?

My assigned role in life is as a mage, but I’ve even managed to bungle that up and lose my ability to do magick. If it weren’t for the fairy dust Tribba got me, I wouldn’t have conjured that dragon or managed anything magickal at all.

What kind of adventures have you had that stay with you till this day?

Up until I was forced to leave my kingdom, my adventures were limited to exploring the Wynnrar Woods surrounding Northend, my city. Since then, traveling through the desert and meeting Juba (and him not eating me!) and championing the Hegis in Willowglen have stayed with me. I conjured a dragon! I’m also madly in love with a dwarf and can’t wait to get back to Willowglen to see her.

Do you have a love interest? If you do please tell us about him/her or why you don’t.

Salisa is the love of my life. I met her in Willowglen when we would go to the arena. She tends a cart in the marketplace. Her family has lived in Willowglen for a long time, and while Tribba disapproves of our relationship, it’s mostly because of some dark history between Salisa’s father and Tribba herself. Salisa isn’t her father though, and Tribba will come around in the end. She’d already started to when Derik forced me to return home.

Tell us about your journey you are on and how it has helped you grow as a person.

I left Northend to relearn my magick, but I never made it to the Great Mage. I championed Tribba in Willowglen instead. She helped me gain some self-confidence, even if I didn’t regain any of my own magick. At least now I have some people on my side, even if they are dwarves. I don’t believe the same as my brother Derik does. I believe everyone is equal, all have something equally important to contribute to Savania’s society. I’m not sure I would say I’ve grown any. I’m still as small as I was when I left. Derik reminds me of this often enough.

What kind of creatures do you see on a daily basis?

Since Tribba gave me a pouch of fairy dust, I see them on a regular basis. Sergy has decided to help me and I’m very appreciative. Derik and I encountered a bargle on our way back to Northend. These are the tiger/bear like creatures that live in the Wynnrar Woods and protect it. Up until I left Northend, I had only seen forest creatures like rabbits, chipmunks, deer, and within the city walls I would find rats, mice, horses, and the occasional bat.

Who do you look up too? Why?

My older brother Fredryk. He’s tough but gentle and always manages to look out for the little guy. He is always helping others and giving up his own things to help someone else. He is also the captain of our army and can swing a sword better than anyone else.

If you had one thing about yourself that you would want to change what would it be?

I wish I had more guts to speak my mind.

Who is your ultimate enemy? Why?

I don’t have any enemies, not really. I want to find the persons responsible for putting the enchantment on my city, and make sure the dragon queen and her knights don’t take over, but “enemy” is a strong word. I’ve never really had any conflicts with anyone worth declaring them an enemy over.

What should we expect from you in your coming book?

Charades will complete my story. I leave Northend for Evenir, the Holy City and finally meet up with the Great Mage and Ravengale, his apprentice. I rejoin with Tribba and lead a small army against Soren in Northend.

Catching Dragons 3

Author Interview: Karen DuBose

Happy Saturday everyone. Today I am sitting down with Fantasy and Paranormal Romance author Karen DuBose. Sit back and hold on while we get down to the nitty gritty. Hope you all are having a great weekend and this makes it better. Happy reading everyone :).

The Interview

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

Where do I even start. Lol. For all who knows me. I write dark fantasy romance. I’m addicted to White monsters (Energy drinks). I love anything to do with Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Which is why my new real ease coming next month is my dark twist on it. I live in East Tennessee with my husband of 15 years and 6 fur babies (all dogs) ranging from 7 lbs up to 75 lbs. Not only am I a writer, I also love to read.

What genre do you write in? Why?

Dark fantasy romance. Because I love putting twist on things. I’ve tried doing non dark, but it always ends up dark. Not all my stories have happy endings.

What does your daily life look like? What do you wish it was like?

I work a lot. Lol. I wish I had more free time to write. Only writing on the weekends isn’t cutting it for me. Lol.

What is your writing process like?

First I have to have my monster close to me and music playing.

How did you come up with the story within your book? What inspired your creativity?

I had a dream about my main character. After that they got into my head demanding me to write their story.

What authors inspired you to write your own book?

Ednah Walters. I told her about the story in my head and she told me to write it. I told her I wasn’t a writer. She then told me that if I wanted my story out there then to write it.

When you write your books do you go straight for pencil and paper or a computer? Why?

Computer because I cannot read my handwriting when I think that fast lol.

Who is your biggest support system in your life?

My husband, mom and sister. Plus my fans are amazing to.

What is the one thing you want to say to your readers?

Thank you for taking a chance on me and my books. I’m so happy you guys love them. I hope you will love the others that I write.

What should we expect from you in the coming months?

I have a new release coming in September. World of Nightmares. My twist on The Nightmare Before Christmas. I’m almost finished with book 2 in The Light Realm series. After that I will be writing Runes story (daughter of Dariya from The Elder Series), a twist on Aladdin, and then Edna’s story (best friend in Wailing Waters)

Excerpt

The howling wind pierced Niamh’s ears as she lie sprawled out on the ground. Her fire-red hair whipped all around her face. As she snapped back into consciousness, she groaned and slowly rolled to her side. She reached up to the corner of her mouth and wiped at the blood trickling down her chin and then lifted her gaze to the noise no more than ten feet away. She blinked at the sight before her.
Not far from where she laid two men battled one another. Neither of her blades could cut the aggression given off by the two of them. To make matters worse, her brother appeared to be winning.
A dark flare shone brightly in his once green eyes as his opponent’s blade pierced just beneath his collarbone on the right side. He laughed … with no gusto, no heart. There was nothing that reflected amusement in his laugh. It was closer to the cackle of a hyena than anything else. Blood began to soak through his clean white pressed cotton shirt. In a gruff voice, he yelled, “Is that the best ye can do?”
Her brother’s fist connected with his opponent’s broad chin. Despite their height and weight difference, the tank of a guy, Jarrett, stumbled back a few steps and his sienna brown hair fell out of place.
There had to be something she could do. She had power. She knew how to wield it. This was the fight that would alter her future forever. Getting to her feet, Niamh focused on collecting a shockwave in her hands. She had to time the release perfectly; otherwise she chanced harming the wrong person.
Her brother’s lips curled fiercely into a deep grin as he yanked the blade from his shoulder. No sound escaped his mouth. A breath of air could hardly be noticed as he removed the twelve-inch, double-edged dagger from his body. It seemed to cause him no pain or perhaps he merely reveled in it. Taking advantage of the tank’s stumbling he stepped forward with a full grip on the hilt of the blade and swiped at him.
Jarrett jerked his face back and barely avoided getting cut with his own blade. The swipe missed by less than an inch.
Her brother was shorter than the tank. He found the momentum needed to gather his footing and spun around, striking her brother with an elbow jab to the throat.
She needed more time. This shockwave had to be the most powerful she had ever dispersed. Niamh watched on as the fight progressed and continued to focus the gathering ball of energy through her entire body.
Her brother used the force of the tank’s steps and shoved the double-edged dagger with full strength into the back of his shoulder. He cackled with glee as his opponent cried out from the pain. “Come on! Ye were supposed to be this high an’ mighty warrior! I thought this would be a challenge!”
Backing away, a wrinkle settled upon the bridge of his nose and beads of sweat formed on his brow. Gritting his teeth, he placed his hand on the hilt and yanked the blade from his shoulder. He threw his head back and howled, then faltered and fell to his knees.
“No!” Niamh screamed.
He couldn’t die! The agony in his outcry provided her the necessary strength to charge the strongest force of shockwave she’d ever managed. A blue current crackled all over her body. Her normal emerald green irises changed to a deep aqua blue.
She was ready.
It was time to end this.
Her brother’s eyes twitched. With a Cheshire grin he planted his feet firmly against the ground. He shook his arms out, then went completely rigid. His eyes were the same shade of green as hers. At least they had been. Midnight black replaced the once emerald green that filled his eyes.
Niamh unleashed the full weight of the shockwave that had consumed her entire body. Blue electricity shot out from her arms, her legs, her fingers. The shockwave surged from every part of her toward her brother.
The energy pushed him back and tore at his skin, but it didn’t knock him down. Hardly any skin ripped open. Wait … no, it was healing, repairing itself before her very eyes! It hadn’t been strong enough. It hadn’t been the right call. The right power. The one she needed to defeat him once and for all.
Her brother lunged at her and wrapped his gangly hand tightly around her neck. Lifting her off the ground, he grinned. “See, I was just going to kill ye, but now I get to kill both o’ye.”
The air to her lungs constricted.
“Ye … don’t … want … to … do … this,” she managed to muster out between tiny breaths.
Tightening his hold around her neck, he pulled her face closer to his. He locked his gaze with her green eyes. “Súil na Éireannach.”
The grin on his lips broadened as his other hand reached out and stroked her sultry red hair. His grip tightened again. Color drained from her face as she struggled to breathe.
This wasn’t how it was supposed to end.
She was the one who was supposed to be victorious.
She was supposed to save them all.
“Killin’ ye first an’ making ‘em watch will be my pleasure.”
Slowly Jarrett stood. Jumping into action, he ran toward them like a bull charging its handler. “Niamh!”

Abruptly Niamh sat up gasping for air. Wiping the beads of sweat from her brow, she looked around. She half expected to find her brother hovering over her with his hands wrapped tightly around her neck. That wasn’t the case.
She was at home, in her room. There was no movement from the Horslips or the Phil Lynott posters that hung on the wall. Both her dresser and desk were completely still. Not even the sound of wind could be heard bustling against her bedroom window. There was no movement from her closet; her clothes hung just as she had left them.

Cover Reveal: Reecah’s Gift

It’s hump day! Another week is halfway over. I thought I would showcase another wonderful cover for author Richard H. Stephens today. This one was a custom one I did for him through KJ Magical Designs.

I was actually surprised with how fast I got this one done. It was like it fell together perfectly. Reecah’s Gift is by far one of my favorites I have done so far. And, without driving you all nuts with suspense here it is. You will have to wait for the full wrap release for there is still work to be done on it.
