Book Review: Dead Lost

We are getting close to the end of this series. The tension is growing with each book and it gets almost unbearable to get to the ending. Now that Jack has made the ultimate sacrifice a friend is now running free in the world unknown to the others. Potter now faces off against the Photographer and finds his old friends Kayla and Sam. Things get heated as Luke’s betrayals and schemes come to the light.

The Review

Isidor is back thanks to Jack Seth. He is now in search of his true love Melody Rose. What he finds is nothing that he expected. With the vampyrus about to break free into the world to rage war and Potter running ragged. Things seem doomed for our heroes as everything hits the climax.

This book was full of twists, turns and so much excitement. I couldn’t put it down till I finished it in two days’ time. The way Tim O’Rourke continues to keep the story chugging forward with no snags is beyond me. There are so many underlining story-lines that need to get pulled together, and it is fun to watch. Highly recommend this book and this series. Can’t wait to get my hands on the finale.

Book Review: Dead Push

We are getting close to the finale of this series. In Dead Waters the ending left you screaming in pain, rolling on the floor. This next book brings you resolve and hope that happiness is still possible. This book features two characters not seen working together—they actually are enemies. But, this time around Jack Seth and Potter team up hoping to save Kiera and her friends.

The Review

Potter and Jack Seth are standing in the railway station Lilly Blu brought them too. Now with one mission in mind they have to find the photographer. So, they both head back through the layers to find this person. Jack gets partnered up with Isidor and Potter has to keep a watchful eye on the Kiera from the layer they are within. They can’t be seen and need to keep from changing events. Will these two find the photographer? Or, will they mess up big time and destroy everything?

This book is slightly confusing since it involves working within the layers and different wheres and whens. I still find that confusing to understand. However, Tim O’Rourke does a wonderful job weaving the tale to help those that get confused. He does such a good job unfolding a story already told through a different POV it is like reading something completely new. You even get to see the inner thinking of how each storyline is pushed and pulled. Love this book and think is is by far one of the best featuring Potter in the POV and it also has the bonus of Jack Seth.

DEAD PUSHDead Push

“…Most of them just sit as if waiting for someone to join them on their impending journey. Others are rushing for their train as if late for some important meeting. They can’t wait to board one of those trains below ground. When I first discovered this place, I don’t know how long I sat here watching the dead hustle and bustle about, queue at the ticket office and take drinks from the vending machines. Like any new place you visit, like your first day at a new school or in a new job, you soon figure out how things work. I knew I was dead…”

Book Review: Dead Water

Now that the trips down memory lane have ended the excitement will now come back into play. We are now onto the seventh book in the Kiera Hudson Series Two series. This book gets things back on track and has more excitement in the pages.

The Review

Sam and Kayla are missing. Hoping to find their friends Kiera, Potter, and Murphy set off towards the Dead Waters hoping to find them along the way. Along the way they find that they are being followed not only by skin-walkers but also statues. Why are they following them? Is Kiera leading them to the Dead Waters? The only way to find out if they make it in one piece is to read the book.

This book was refreshing. I enjoyed the pace it moved and kept the excitement running smoothly. The book didn’t overwhelm you or leave you wanting more. It kept you with the hunger to get to the next book. However, you start to wonder who is the mastermind behind the journey these heroes have been faced with.

Book Review: Dead Wolf

This series is turning out far from expected. So, far several of the books turned out to be trips down memory lane. These trips unfold a story that helps create the bigger picture. Each book shows how delicate Tim O’Rourke has woven each thread and needs to be shared in a timely manner.

The Review

Murphy and Potter have come to save Kiera only to find that she saved herself. Now faced with the reality of his failed attempts Potter faces her wrath. Not only that Murphy now has to fuss up to his passed. Kiera now knows the truth about herself and her past. Now she has to face Murphy as he relives his mistakes by telling her and Potter everything.

This book turned out to be similar in style to book five. But, instead of Seth reliving his past now it is Murphy’s turn. Tim O’Rourke placed delicate threads and they are slowly unraveling before Kiera’s eyes. This book was interesting and kept my interest but fell short to the others. I found myself interested to an extent but wandered away to other adventures. Overall, the only reason I finished it was because I love Murphy as a character and I was eager to get to the next book in the series.

Book Review: Dead Seth

We are now to the halfway point for this series. Book five is by far one of my favorites because you get to see inside the mind of Jack Seth. You get to see the boy before he became the killer they know him to be. What makes a killer? How does his child hood effect the way he ends up as an adult? You will find out the horrors of his past and how it connects to Kiera Hudson.

The Review

We left Kiera Hudson as a captive of Jack Seth. Now facing death at his hand she believes Potter has betrayed her. Her friends aren’t coming and she is on her own. She is turning to dust by the minute. The worst fate is sitting across for a killer as he tells her the story of his life while her father bleeds on the floor.

Emotions are high in this book and leave you craving more. I found this book refreshing because Tim O’Rourke lets you see inside the eyes of Jack Seth. You get to see the story of his life unfold and how it has affected him. He even lets his guard down and shows Kiera a side to him she never knew existed. Kiera will face yet another choice forced on by Jack himself. Will she become a statue, let her father die, or save Jack? The twists and turns left me reeling with excitement. This by far is one of my top favorites. Highly recommend this book to anyone that wants to get into the mind and past of a killer.

Book Review: Dead Statues

We are now on to the fourth book in the Kiera Hudson Series Two collection. In the last book we left our heroes fleeing for their lives. One of the group gets killed off and they are now in mourning for this person. I won’t name names because that would ruin it for you as the reader. This next book is twisted to the core as a new enemy appears that they haven’t figured out yet if they are friend or foe.

The Review

Our heroes are now fleeing for their lives. Kiera finds out Potter is keeping secrets from her and she has to make a decision. This decision to find her father will jeopardize their mission and possibly be her end. Now they know the pictures they have been finding with the word ‘Push’ on them are from events not happened yet. They only problem is if the photographer witnessed at the scene is a friend or foe.

In this adventure things get heated between Kiera and Potter leaving their relationship on the brink of destruction. The emotions are high and Tim O’Rourke leaves you turning the page with hunger to find the ending. I couldn’t put this book down with so many dangers on all sides the excitement never ends. The ending leaves you in fear for Kiera Hudson’s life, but does she make it out of this one alive? Find out by reading this awesome new installment in the series number two.

Book Review: Dead Angels

Book two in the Kiera Hudson Series Two took us away from the story line in book one. Now getting back on track we are back at Hallowed Manor with the injured Sam and the distraught group. In this book things start to get more complex into the series and takes you down a road not expected.

The Review

The group is back at Hallowed Manor recuperating from their ordeal in book one. Kiera is still heartsick over the decision Jack Seth forced on her. While Kayla tends to an injured Sam. Hoping to save their new friend they flee Hallowed Manor hoping to save Sam from becoming a skin-walker.

Along the road they find themselves hunted by the skin-walkers and fighting for their lives. A turn of events takes them to seek refuge in a railway station where Isidor spins a story from his past for his friends. The end of the book is a tearjerker and will leave your heart broken.

I was excited to get back to Kiera and the main story line. However, this book turned out to be more of a trip down memory lane for Isidor. This was a refreshing read and extremely interesting. I loved getting to know Isidor more and finding out more about the pushed world. The ending left me heart broken because someone dies. I will not say who but it will leave you devastated. Highly recommend this book to all the Kiera Hudson fans out there or someone looking for a fun twist on the vampire line of books. It is by far not the tradition vampire story but has awesome creatures called vampyrus.

Book Review: Dead Night

The series is just getting interesting with book one being awesome as always. Now we move onto book two in the Kiera Hudson Series Two. This is an interesting twist to the story line for Potter has to face his first love, Sophie. Except this time he is facing her in a pushed world where she doesn’t know who he is.

The Review

Overall, this was an interesting book that took you down a path not expected. Having Potter face his first love once again but in a pushed world leaves him facing obstacles and secrets. Now being with Kiera he finds himself torn when Sophie shows interest in him and he has to make a choice. Not only that with skin-walkers hunting Sophie they both find themselves in a fight for their lives.

This was an interesting read. However, I see this book more as a way for the author to explain the way the world is than anything. Overall, that is the only reason I think it fits into the series itself. Potter always has a way of getting himself into trouble and find himself in situations that end up making him keep secrets from the one he loves, Kiera. This book is well written and enjoyable to read. Highly recommend it to those interested in this series or wanting to get to know Potter more in depth.

Book Review: Dead Flesh

I am a big fan of Tim O’Rourke’s Kiera Hudson books. I can’t get enough of them. Just last month I finished up the six book review series I did for series one. Now, I plan to move onto series two and provide a review for each book. I will continue with a new review each month on the last Monday of the month. This will include ten books in this series and I hope you will follow along as I have with reading them.

The Review

At, the end of series one Kiera makes her choice between the humans and vampyrus. However, she doesn’t make the choice the elders expected. In retribution they cursed her back to life as the dead flesh. Now back at Hallowed Manor with her friends they wonder what their purpose is. To get things back in order, Kiera puts an ad in the paper to find people who need her detective skills.

Now investigating Emily Clarke’s death Kiera finds the world not the way she left it. The world has been pushed with slight changes. With getting pulled to a school filled with kids held by skin-walkers Kiera needs to unravel the horrors within. Will Kayla make it out safe or will she become a skin-walker herself? You will only find out by reading the book.

Tim O’Rourke spins a story so well it is hard to figure out the answers before they happen. He keeps you guessing and wanting more. Each little image he gives is like a trick of the eye and only Kiera Hudson is skilled enough to figure out the scene unfolding before her. As a reader, I find myself pulled into the book and rooting for Kiera. She is a lovable character that you want to succeed more than anything. He keeps you laughing with the banter between Isidor and Potter or Potter and Murphy. If you can’t see Potter is a comical relief wherever he is. Highly recommend this book to everyone that loves a twist on zombies. They aren’t truly zombie like but they do need to feed on blood to keep from turning to ash.

Ranking: 5 out of 5 stars!

The Book

But during her investigations, Kiera soon discovers that the world is now a much darker and dangerous place than the one she left behind.

Book Review: Vampire Hollows

The finale is here. This will end my series review for Kiera Hudson Series One. However, there are additional series so the book review series will continue. Thought you were done with me not yet. I currently have series two already read and will do those reviews on schedule after I publish this one. I hope everyone enjoyed this series as much as I did. If you haven’t started it yet, you should it is an awesome read. This coming from the girl that doesn’t like reading vampire books. That has transformed since reading Tim O’Rourke’s published books.

The Review

Kiera and her friends are out of options, the only place they can go is the Hallows. Seeing a world talked about will fill Kiera with wonder. But, with danger around every corner her friends start to drop like flies.

Will she make it to the elders to make her choice? Who is Elias Munn and how will she stop him from destroying the human world? Can she destroy an entire race to save those she loves most? You will only find out by reading this awesome book.

This book was by far my favorite. It was not because it is the last book in the series with all the answers to my questions. This book had so many twists, turns, ups, and downs it kept me reeling in my seat. Each book gets better and better. Then the ending comes with the most surprising twist.

Yes, the ending was twisted but left me screaming. I wanted a different ending. I wanted it to continue. The sense I was cheated as a reader felt strong. Then I got to the end where a preview for the next series book was. Then happiness crept back in and I couldn’t wait to grab the next series to find out the next twist and turns to come.

Tim O’Rourke you are a talented author. I loved each book with a passion. Yes, there were times I stumbled across formatting issues, typos or something else not worth mentioning. But, I loved the book so much I could overlook these small in-fractures. Please keep writing so I can keep reading your books. Love them to death. Overall, out of all them I only 4 starred one book in this series. The rest all blew my mind away.

Question I had while reading this book:

Who is Elias Munn? Luke or Potter?

Who is killing Kiera’s friends?

Tim O’Rourke should make artwork of the hallows. (Not a question more like an idea :).)

Ranking: 5 out of 5 stars!

Book Review: Wolf House

These books are an addiction I can’t shake. I didn’t realize how I was going to get wrapped up in this series when I snatched up book 1. Hard to believe that one freebie turned into a hungry to read the entire series. This isn’t the first time this has happened to me and I bet it won’t be my last. Check out my review below to see my thoughts on the fifth book in Tim O’Rourke’s Kiera Hudson Series One.

The Review

Kiera is free and back with Potter. But, Luke is still missing and Potter wanting to show his love for Kiera sets off to help find him. He is twisted up inside because nothing he does seems right in Kiera’s eyes. Potter falls back into old habits when he runs down memory lane.

A lycanthrope brings him back through his past to revisit the nightmare he lived in the Wolf House. Find out if Potter finds the murderer of the children in this adventure. Also, watch as Potter not only falls in love but rips the heart of Kiera at the same time. Who can she trust?

First off, I love this book. At first I didn’t understand the importance it had within the series. So far, all the books have been in Kiera’s POV. Then boom this book drops in front of me and it is all Potter. At first I didn’t see why it was even in the series. Yes, it would be a good book as a side novella but in the series?

Once I got to the end of this book, it was all laid out for me in black and white. This book ties into the series with such fine strings you have to follow along without hesitation. I had so many questions and it answered them all. Now the new problem is who is Elias Munn? Is it Potter? You will have to read to find out.

Question I had while reading this book:

What is the importance of Potter’s journey at the Wolf House?

Why does Potter do and say everything wrong?

Is he Elias Munn?

Where the heck is Luke?

And, why can’t Kiera make her choice on her man already?

Ranking: 4 out of 5 stars!

The Book

WOLF HOUSEWolf House

Author Spotlight: Jennifer Ann Schlag

Are you ready for Monday? It is coming up really fast this week. I just got back from going to Des Moines, IA for the Iowa State Fair. So, I am playing catch-up with a lot of things. But, enough about me. Lets get down to why you are here today. Today I am doing an Author Spotlight on Dark Fantasy author Jennifer Ann Schlag. This kind of post is a way for the author to introduce themselves to you, the reader. So, hold onto your butts and lets get to know this awesome author.

20160804_081937Hi, everyone. My name is Jenn and I write dark fantasy stories. Being a fan of fantasy all my life, I always knew I wanted to make fantasy movies or at least write them. After I decided to take my first fantasy screenplay Goval: Parallel Destiny and turn it into a novel, I realized that I could expand on my dark fantasy stories in ways that a movie simply cannot. Having read books before bed as a child, I already had a love for reading, and with writing my short stories and people liking them, writing a novel came easy to me. I am way too critical of my own work, but that’s a good thing. When I am not writing I am obsessed with photography and sunsets. I have a strong passion towards animals so I spend a lot of time with my fur babies. When I need to de-stress myself, which is often as a writer, I play video games, and I pvp in the online game World of Warcraft, as well as play the online game League of Legends. I tend to enjoy movies better when watching alone because I hate being interrupted. I usually write to instrumental music and I can be found singing along to my favorite songs in the car or at the computer. Inspiration is a funny thing. Some writers are inspired by other writers and some are inspired when they watch movies. For me inspiration comes from everywhere. The inspiration for Goval came when I went to England in 2002. Goval is one of those stories that has a deeper, hidden meaning if you scratch enough at the surface. I would consider it my magnum opus. There was a time that I wanted to be an archaeologist or a scientist. My love for philosophy sometimes makes it hard for me to carry on a conversation with someone. My mind works faster than I’d like it to. That’s especially hard when trying to write a scene. My favorite movie of all time is The Princess Bride. It literally has everything to offer you. Adventure, romance, humor, suspense, horror, and fantasy. I can’t say that I have a favorite book but my favorite author is Stephen King. I don’t consider myself a trendsetter. I don’t always keep up with fashion because I like the relaxed, casual look too much. If I could live anywhere other than this planet, I’d rather be a travelling soul that explores the universe. I almost forgot to mention wolves. The wolf has been my favorite for a long time. It both terrifies me and exhilarates me. I simply love them. I donate to the wolf conversation in New York.

Something I’ve learned from this self-publishing experience is there’s a lot of competition out there. And you really need to do your research. You should know that it takes a lot more than writing an amazing book. Or having an amazing cover. Don’t do what I did. Write a book and try to find fans. Build your fanbase then give them snippets of your book or give them short stories. How do you find your fanbase? You have to network. Either with other writers or join groups who like read books. Befriend a writer whose books you like. Ask them if they wouldn’t mind mentioning you in their blogs or newsletter. Be kind and tell them you’d love to review their book in return for the favor. Remember, us writers love reviews. Good and bad. I came into this ass backwards. I published my first book Night First: The Divinity of Damien Calla not knowing anyone really. Then I thought people would just find it in Amazon and buy it. Didn’t happen. Network. Market. So, where I am happy to be writing and telling my stories, I do wish to be very successful where I can say I earn a lot of money doing the thing I love most. We all want it. Whether you are a writer, teacher, actor, scientist, or someone shining shoes on the street. We all want to be successful and be able to pay our bills and enjoy life. I hope to touch everyone with my written words, and whether you love or hate my books, I know I have achieved my goal: I got a reaction out of you. Happy reading and do pick up one of my books if you like mystery, fantasy, and not knowing what may happen next. I have plenty more to come.

Book Spotlight: Heir of Dragmoore

Today I am featuring a favorite author of mine and her book, Heir of Dragmoore. Not only is the book awesome check out the cover below. It just takes my breath away. Well anyway Jennifer Ann Schlag is sharing a special excerpt with us today. Hope you enjoy.

Excerpt

Kip glides out onto a rock sitting in the water close to shore. Talen stops right before the water hits her shoes. Stares out at the sea, at Kip, at the sun making the water shine. It overwhelms her to the point that she starts crying. She can sense that someone is coming. She turns and sees Remy searching through the sand.
“Kip, come and stay on the land.”
Remy sits down on the sand while holding some shells. Talen joins him.
“I don’t want to appear rude. I am thankful that you are looking out for me. So thank you.”
“That tale the woman told us about; the brother and sister, the shell necklaces. It got me thinking.”
“About what?”
“About us.”
Talen shivers. And it’s not from the cold sea air.
“It doesn’t matter. Let’s find Deegus and be on our way.” Remy heads for the establishments.
Kip runs over to Talen and kicks sand up at her face. He buries his face in the sand.
What is wrong?
“I think I’ve hurt the prince’s feelings. I don’t want to be seen as a bad person. Oh, how I can’t wait to be free of all this and live with the Masters.”
Kip shakes the sand off him. If you live with the Masters, will we still be friends?
“Of course. Why would that change?”
Because the Masters are dangerous people. My father told me about them. My mother warned me to stay away from them.
“But I am bringing you with me to the Veiled Haven. To show them that I can speak to you and then they must come back with me to Dragmoore.”
What for? Your father is free. The king is dying. The proof you wanted doesn’t matter anymore. You want to go to the Veiled Haven because you want to feel as if you belong somewhere. You have a loving father, friends, and you have the prince who clearly likes you. And you have me, Talen. Please let that be enough. Don’t go to the Veiled Haven. It changes people.
“I must go there at least once. If you feel like I am in danger at any point, you tell me and I will leave. I promise.”

Book Review: Vampire Breed

The suspense of this series is killing me. I haven’t gone several days without reading at least a few chapters a day. I’ve been neglecting my writing to read these books. I am obsessed. But, our book review series must continue on as should my own writing. In a few words I will tell you about this book and my thoughts on it too. I hope you are enjoying this book review series.

The Review

Kiera is imprisoned. She doesn’t know where she is being held. Or, if her friends are even alive. Potter promised to come to her rescue, but where is he. Now hooked on the red stuff Kiera is an addict at the mercy of her captives.

She is out of her mind not knowing what is the truth or a fabrication the addiction has caused. All she knows is that a strange lycanthrope comes to her each night in her cell. Is he friend or foe Kiera doesn’t know? Realizing freedom can only come at her own hands she devises a plan for escape. Does she make it? You must read to find out.

This book in the series really showcases the loss of one’s will when addiction takes hold. It shows the struggle and harm it brings. Then tells of how the fight to remain clean is a burden that can kill. Tim O’Rourke takes you on an emotional rollercoaster that keeps you turning the page. The darkness in the series really takes hold in this book and perp-ells the series forward.

Question I had while reading this book:

Where the hell is Potter?

What happened to Luke?

Who is behind this brutal treatment?

And, who is this wolf that stalks Kiera at night?

Ranking: 5 out of 5 stars!

Author Interview: Jennifer Ann Schlag

It’s Thursday! The middle of the week is gone and I got another awesome featured today. I am featuring a good friend of mine from New York. Hope you will stop in and check out Jennifer Ann Sclag in her author interview.

The Interview

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I am from New York and, although it can be a rough place to live, I can’t imagine living anywhere else. Growing up around books and movies, I easily fell in love with storytelling from an early age. I wrote short stories throughout my childhood but wrote my first professional screenplay in 2002 (Goval: Parallel Destiny). After abandoning writing for a few years, I picked it back up and wrote the novel version to that screenplay, and that is when aspiring filmmaker became aspiring author. I am seriously addicted to YouTube and Netflix. It is often a distraction for my writing time. Sometimes people ask where I come up with my story ideas and I simply say I find inspiration from everything around me. Life is inspiration.

What genre do you write in? Why?

Dark fantasy/fantasy. Although I grew up watching sci-fi movies, fantasy movies have always been my favorite. Fantasy has a way of making you forget reality for a while, and we all need that. It transports you into another world and, for a moment, you believe in magic and that the impossible is possible.

What inspired you to become an author?

Watching movies and reading books. From there the passion for reading grew and the desire to write stories blossomed.

Tell us about your latest release?

Many who have travelled into the Veiled Haven have never returned, and those that do are forever changed. When opportunity arises for Talen to venture there with a spoiled prince, secrets are revealed about both of them which will change their position in life and what they mean to each other.

How did you come up with the story within your book? What inspired your creativity?

I saw a friend’s premade book cover for sale with a woman and dragon on the cover and instantly the story came to me.

Tell us about your main character in your book. What makes them unique?

Talen is a young woman who could always talk to animals, but mastering a talent such as talking to every animal in the world, even the sacred ones, is a skill only the Masters of the Veiled Haven can acquire. She often gets herself in trouble but manages to find a way out of it barely scarred or bruised.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years as a writer?

Writing more books. Hopefully very successful before those 5 years.

Who is your biggest support system in your life?

My facebook author friends.

Who are your top three favorite authors?

Stephen King, Jordan Frost, and Shakespeare.

What is the one thing you want to say to your readers?

Always keep a foot in the past, your heart in the present, and your mind in the future.
