Author Spotlight: Ariel Paiement

Welcome back to my blog. Today I am doing a special author spotlight feature Fantasy Author Ariel Paiement. She is a talented writer and I thought it would be a good day to showcase her to you all.

Author's Profile Photo (2) - Ariel PaiementAriel Paiement

Hi, I’m Ariel Paiement, a Christian speculative fiction author. My aim is to write fantasy and sci-fi that provokes thought and leaves the readers thinking about real world parallels to my work long after they’ve finished reading. My work is presented with a Christian world-view even when the work might not be openly discussing or focused on Christianity, the Gospel, or God. This means that although even non-Christian readers will be able to enjoy my work, I am not shy about noting that all of the themes and concepts presented as good will be traditional Christian themes and concepts. As an author, my favorite stories to write are the ones that are complex, full of great characterization, and richly built with a world readers can immerse themselves within.

Five Fun Facts:

My undergrad is in accounting, but I’m getting my masters in English. I’m an artist as well as a writer. I read books in nearly every genre even though I only write speculative fiction. I’m a freelance editor. I’m teaching English for homeschooled kids this school year. I love horseback riding. I’ve gone gem-mining before. I lived in Upstate New York for nearly nine years and never once went to New York City.

Author Bio:

Ariel Paiement is a speculative fiction author. She writes a variety of fiction pieces and other works. As a reader, she enjoys lots of styles and genres, though fantasy and science fiction are her favorites. Her favorite pastime is indulging in wild flights of imagination for new fiction pieces and other works. If asked what she spends most of her time doing, she’d tell you that she spends most of it working either and writing. Life gets to be hectic, but she enjoys her part-time teaching and editing work as well as writing whenever she has a spare moment. She is the author of several short fiction pieces and other works, including On The Narrow Way and Rith’s Disciple (both of which are published in Port and Key’s anthologies, In Darkness Lost, and the first of the Legends of Alcardia series. Her newest novel, On Twilight’s Wings, is a YA fantasy novel and the first in a YA Christian fantasy series with the second one, On Anarchy’s Wings, releasing in the beginning of 2021. In July of 2020, another short story, Leap of Faith, will be out. This short story will be available in the anthology Glimpses of Time and Magic. You can find Ariel on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest as well as via email at She’s pretty open to connecting with readers and other writers too! Reach out if you want to chat. Just be sure you introduce yourself. She deletes requests that seem weird or creepy. Saying something more than just hi would be nice.

Bane of Ashkarith cover with subtitle - Ariel Paiement

Kaidan Tadegan is working on a new site trying to prove the myth that two armies of the gods clashed there. While on the dig site, he discovers the evidence he’s looking for, but he gets more than he bargained for when he discovers a woman’s bones in a section of the dig site where no other remains have been found. As he digs the bones out, he discovers a journal with the woman’s body, which tells a story that, if true, will turn the myths of the old world and the established concepts of good and evil on their heads. Startled by the find, Kaidan sets out to discover whether the diary’s claims have any validity. But when the diary leads to a city that’s supposedly long gone, Kaidan’s journey becomes more difficult than expected. Things become even more tangled when he discovers that the city isn’t gone, but it’s no place for the living. Unable to give up on his quest, he forges ahead. What lies ahead is uncertain, and even more uncertain is whether Kaidan will survive this quest. He has only two questions in his mind. Will he find the truth in this city of the dead? And will the world accept the truth?

Author Spotlight: Kenzie Macallan

KMgoldKenzie lives with her husband in New England and is a huge dog lover. She has been fortunate enough to travel all over the world to places like Africa, Greece, Switzerland, Holland, France, England and, of course, Scotland. Edinburgh is one of her favorite places.

Her overactive imagination keeps going. Creativity seems to be part of her soul as she paints portraits, takes photographs, and bakes. Cooking seems to elude her. They have all added to her storytelling especially when writing about strong women and alpha men. She looks forward to adding to her adventures and her readers.

6 Fun Facts:

1. I lived in the Ivory Coast in West Africa for two years when I was a child. We moved to Greece after that for a year and a half. Both countries were beautiful and very unique.
2. When I was ten years old I was scouted by an Olympic ice skating coach who said, “You have raw talent.” I loved figure skating. However, my brother was three years younger and my mom didn’t want to take me to the ice skating rink at 5 am. I can’t blame her.
I continued to skate for many years after.
3.  In the last year, I have taken up knitting, something I never would have considered in the past. I’ve made a basket weave cowl, scarf, and a fleece-lined shawl for a friend. I made the cowl for me but after that I feel like I need to find them a home.
4. My husband and I are huge dog lovers especially pit bulls. We had two rescues, Nikko and Koda. They were so funny together and were inseparable. They lived long lives. Koda lived to thirteen and Nikko lived to almost fifteen. We miss them so much. My step son has a pit bull rescue, Roxie, who we adore. She’s our grand furbaby.
5. We love to travel. Last April we went to Tennesse and loved it. This year, we’re going to Washington D.C. after Christmas. Neither one of us has been there and I’m sure it won’t be our last trip.
6. At one time, I painted portraits mostly of children. I worked in oil. But I gave it up to write. I guess I just love to create things. Right now, my passion is writing and I will continue to write and publish.

Epic Fantasy Author Richard H. Stephens

Happy Wednesday everyone. We are half way through our week already. Things need to slow down, it seems like everyday is flying by. For those of you having a sucky week I’m sorry. Please enjoy this Author Spotlight and hope it helps brighten your day or week.

Richard H. Stephens

AUTHORPICRichard began writing circa 1974, a bored child looking for something to do. As his reading horizons broadened, so did his writing.
A trip to a local bookstore saw the proprietor introduce him to Terry Brooks and Stephen R. Donaldson. His writing life was forever changed.
He worked in a warehouse for 22 years, supporting his family, before re-attending school to complete his education. Graduating with honours, he joined the local Police Service.
In 2017, he resigned from the Police Service to pursue writing full-time. With the support of his family, he has finally realized his boyhood dream.

Six Fun Facts about Richard:

  1. I started writing when I was 9 years old, a bored child looking for something to do one summer vacation. I looked at a Hardy Boys’ novel sitting beside me and thought, I could write one of those, and so, I did. In 1977, Star Wars hit the big screen, fueling a 600-page novel that saw ms and all my friends saving the galaxy. Shortly afterward, a local bookstore proprietor introduced me to The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks. I instantly became a fantasy lover.
  2. The Soul Forge Saga took 36 years from inception to publication. Right from the very beginning, I always knew how the series would end…right up until, halfway through writing book 3 at the end of 2018, one of the main characters did something completely unplanned. The ending went out the window, but all was not lost. As a new ending surfaced, my next series, The Legends of the Lurker, was born.
  3. Ironically, the very next day, while waiting to leave the house to attend something, (I have no idea what anymore), I decided to browse through my Facebook feed and by the purest of accidents, I came across a pre-made cover by K.M. Jenkins—a person I’d never herard of before that moment. As soon as I saw the cover, I had to have it. It was the exact image of what I had envisioned just the day before. It was as if fate had intervened. Needless to say, I was late arriving at wherever it was I was supposed to be. I refused to leave the house until I had secured the rights to the cover. Reecah’s Flight was born.
  4. People always comment on my amazing covers, both custom and pre-made, and that is entirely to the credit of the those who make them. K. M. Jenkins and Marco Pennacchietti, your covers inspire me. This leads me to a peculiar thing that happened when the cover for Soul Forge was created. The cover depicts an archer and an old man with a white beard at the base of a waterfall. Soul Forge’s first draft came in at 178,000 words, and in all those words, never once did I portray the old man as a wizard, and yet, my artist decided to give him a staff. At first, I was like, “Um, Marco, we need to lose the staff,” but his vision grew on me. A vision that ultimately led to a drastic transformation of the series.
  5. Over the years, I’ve had two careers and five children. My love for writing always took a back seat, as my children and the jobs were my first priority. I recently retired from a very stressful position in law enforcement, and with the support of my wife, have finally been able to realize my boyhood dream of being an author.
  6. I dearly love all of my fans and hope to someday meet each and every one of them—if not in person, then perhaps in the skies on the back of a dragon.

It’s the start of another week. Can’t believe it is another Monday already. Thought I would start the week out on a good food by featuring an Author Spotlight. Today I will be showcasing Cam Johns books and some fun facts about herself. Read below to check it out.

Cam Johns

unnamed (3)Cam Johns began her career as a published author in 2016 with the release of Arousing Consequences, the first book of her trilogy, The Arousing Series. However, actually publishing wasn’t part of her plan. After her husband was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, she found that writing became a great way to relieve the tension, and mounted pressures that come with watching someone she loves suffer from such a harsh diagnosis. It was her husband that pushed her to share her voice, regardless of how erotic that voice would become.
Live. Love. Laugh.  A well-known mantra that has become her way of living. Live, by accepting the things you cannot change. Love, the ones closest to you as if there’s no tomorrow. Laugh, each day because sadness will get you no where!
Six Fun Facts About Cam!

Author Spotlight: C.J. Rose

Welcome to a new month. Can’t believe September is here already. Doesn’t even feel like August even finished. This year just keeps slipping by each day without notice. Today though I thought I would feature an author friend in her own Author Spotlight. Please check it out below and feel free to ask C.J. Rose some questions to get to know her better.

2Hi Everyone! I am RoseAnn Labriola, penning as C.J. Rose. C. J. Rose resides in Central Illinois; originally from just south of Chicago. The passion for writing took root in high school where she began writing song lyrics and poetry. C.J. found her inspiration from other fantasy and YA novels such as Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, Chronicles of Narnia, and more. On top of literature, Rose has a keen love for all things nerdy and sci-fi. On a quiet night, you can find her curled up with an episode of Doctor Who, Arrow, Firefly, and more. C. J. also belongs to a theatre organization KVTA. The devotion to musicals and theatre has led her to be a part of over 10 shows as an actor, and over 20 as a staff person.

I am a hairstylist, with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. I have always loved writing, whether it was poems, song lyrics or stories. I decided it was time to sit down and put my thoughts to paper of a story concept I have played with for long time. In the process, it developed into the full-length version that I am proud to call my first published book, Bridge of the Gods – A Generation Son Chronicle. Now I have 3 novels in the series as well as a companion cookbook.

Author Spotlight: Aurora Jean Alexander

It’s Saturday, the first Saturday in the school year here in Sioux City, IA. My nieces went back to school just yesterday, which I think is stupid. Who starts school on a Friday and then bam it’s the weekend. Makes no sense. Well, anyway today I am giving over my blog to Paranormal Romance and Fantasy author Aurora Jean Alexander. She is going to talk about her current series in the works and her lovely kitties. Hope you have an awesome read…

I am Aurora Jean Alexander, AJ in short. I’m an author who recently published her 2nd book in ‘The Council Of Twelve’ series, Sundance.
I was quite young when I discovered I wanted to write. I doubt I can tell you one specific time or even time frame when I started writing. I felt that’s what I wanted to do. Since I lack talent in painting and drawing, I had to do something with my creativity and decided that’s the way to do it.
68377702_2339389279443846_8674632992049594368_nI’m not sure there ever was “a starting point” when I decided clearly, I wanted to be a writer. I learned to write at the age of four, and I remember developing little stories since I’m a Kindergarten kid. In school, when others complained about essays, mine were easily 6 – 10 pages long, I enjoyed it so much. When I got older, the need to write deepened, and I became more serious. Finally, I worked myself ‘up’ to the point where I am now; writing a series of 13 books with the second in the series published.68946247_468887350625362_1246627791105949696_n
For a long time already, I felt fascinated by angels. Quite some time ago I asked myself if angels would ever fall in love. And here, the basic idea for ‘The Council Of Twelve’ series was born. Of course, I needed to add a bit more to the story than ‘only’ love. And that’s what I tried to do.
Next, to being a writer, I’m also a cat mommy. At my place there are three beautiful Maine Coon cats, one of them a tomcat and two females. I call them my ‘assistants.’ They all are gorgeous, of course, and each one of them has a fairly unique personality. I love talking about my cats. Jake is a rare golden tabby with white. He is a breathtaking ‘tiger’ with huge paws, and the sweetest personality one can imagine. He is very soft and caring. When I got him I had a tiny black Persian, and he used to play with her. Even though it looked quite rough he never hurt her. And when she got sick, shortly before I had to euthanize her, she couldn’t wash anymore, and Jake helped her.
69232551_928840687470777_998835451169079296_nCharlet is the one I got after the Persian passed away. She is a Maine Coon black-tabby and has the cutest face one can imagine, surrounded by a black line like it would frame her little face. She is quite small for a Maine Coon cat, but she stood her ground quite well and showed Jake that he could not do with her whatever he liked. She is a very mommy-oriented cat and loves to cuddle and curl up on my desk.
Tjara is a beautiful black Maine Coon cat. She is a former ‘best of show’ cat. I got her after she was retired from breeding. That is how I got all my cats. Each one was already grown up when I provided them with a forever home. Tjara is a very self-confident cat. When I brought her in, it took her about half an hour, and she took the job as a ‘pack leader.’ She is proud and strong, and very elegant. With her I have my own personal mini-Panther.
Each one of them is dear to my heart and enriches my life in an indescribable way. My writing is a major part of my life, and my cats are the other major part. I’m happy for every new reader of my books, and so are my assistants. (They get treats when I celebrate new readers.)

Author Spotlight: Jennifer Ann Schlag

Are you ready for Monday? It is coming up really fast this week. I just got back from going to Des Moines, IA for the Iowa State Fair. So, I am playing catch-up with a lot of things. But, enough about me. Lets get down to why you are here today. Today I am doing an Author Spotlight on Dark Fantasy author Jennifer Ann Schlag. This kind of post is a way for the author to introduce themselves to you, the reader. So, hold onto your butts and lets get to know this awesome author.

20160804_081937Hi, everyone. My name is Jenn and I write dark fantasy stories. Being a fan of fantasy all my life, I always knew I wanted to make fantasy movies or at least write them. After I decided to take my first fantasy screenplay Goval: Parallel Destiny and turn it into a novel, I realized that I could expand on my dark fantasy stories in ways that a movie simply cannot. Having read books before bed as a child, I already had a love for reading, and with writing my short stories and people liking them, writing a novel came easy to me. I am way too critical of my own work, but that’s a good thing. When I am not writing I am obsessed with photography and sunsets. I have a strong passion towards animals so I spend a lot of time with my fur babies. When I need to de-stress myself, which is often as a writer, I play video games, and I pvp in the online game World of Warcraft, as well as play the online game League of Legends. I tend to enjoy movies better when watching alone because I hate being interrupted. I usually write to instrumental music and I can be found singing along to my favorite songs in the car or at the computer. Inspiration is a funny thing. Some writers are inspired by other writers and some are inspired when they watch movies. For me inspiration comes from everywhere. The inspiration for Goval came when I went to England in 2002. Goval is one of those stories that has a deeper, hidden meaning if you scratch enough at the surface. I would consider it my magnum opus. There was a time that I wanted to be an archaeologist or a scientist. My love for philosophy sometimes makes it hard for me to carry on a conversation with someone. My mind works faster than I’d like it to. That’s especially hard when trying to write a scene. My favorite movie of all time is The Princess Bride. It literally has everything to offer you. Adventure, romance, humor, suspense, horror, and fantasy. I can’t say that I have a favorite book but my favorite author is Stephen King. I don’t consider myself a trendsetter. I don’t always keep up with fashion because I like the relaxed, casual look too much. If I could live anywhere other than this planet, I’d rather be a travelling soul that explores the universe. I almost forgot to mention wolves. The wolf has been my favorite for a long time. It both terrifies me and exhilarates me. I simply love them. I donate to the wolf conversation in New York.

Something I’ve learned from this self-publishing experience is there’s a lot of competition out there. And you really need to do your research. You should know that it takes a lot more than writing an amazing book. Or having an amazing cover. Don’t do what I did. Write a book and try to find fans. Build your fanbase then give them snippets of your book or give them short stories. How do you find your fanbase? You have to network. Either with other writers or join groups who like read books. Befriend a writer whose books you like. Ask them if they wouldn’t mind mentioning you in their blogs or newsletter. Be kind and tell them you’d love to review their book in return for the favor. Remember, us writers love reviews. Good and bad. I came into this ass backwards. I published my first book Night First: The Divinity of Damien Calla not knowing anyone really. The Books

Nightfirstecover1  H_eir of Dragmoore_eb

Welcome to my Friday Author Spotlight, today I will be doing a character interview with Eva Della Luna. She is a healer and a painter within YA Fantasy author Maria Vermisoglou book The Cursed Girl. I am happy to have them both here today for your enjoyment. Hope you will look into adding The Cursed Girl, the first book in The Cursed Girl series to your reading list.

Without further a do, lets get the party started…

Do you have a chosen profession? What is it?

I’m a healer and a painter.

What’s your world like and where do you fit in it?

I was born in the White Land, a magical land where witches reside. I live in Spain in the year 1230. Things are hard because royals are cruel with their people. I try to help them as much as I can but there’s so much you can do. I try to balance my life with and without powers because in the era I live, magic is not something you reveal.

Is there one person you would move heaven and earth to protect? Who is it and why?

Jonathan. He is one of the ones I love most and even if he’s acting stupid some times, I love him and I will protect him.

What are your goals? What would you like to achieve?

I would like to travel, draw, be with my friends and my cat. Preferably, without being killed by demons or humans.

Tell us about your favorite adventure you went on? Don’t leave out any juicy details…

I’ve been in lots of places but one of my favorites was when we were running away and hid into a forest in Firenze (Italy). Yes, we were in hiding which I did not like but the place was amazing. I love nature and this place was like magic. We were staying in a cave near a waterfall and the view was amazing. All right, maybe it was also amazing because Jonathan kissed me there and made me lose control of my powers. A fact that I didn’t like but fortunately, he didn’t ask any questions. But anyway, if you ever get a chance to go to Florence, please don’t miss it.

Everyone has a close friend or companion. Who is yours? Tell us a bit about them…

Ritta is my best witch friend, my companion in battle. We do everything together and tell each other everything. She’s like a sister to me and I rely to her. She is a great listener and her advice is very helpful. Witches can communicate with telepathy so she’s there even if she’s not physically there.

What is the biggest regret you have? Can you explain?

That I didn’t throw to jail the yelling couple who caused my death. Nah, uh! I’m not saying anything else. You have to read the book!

Tell us about your nemesis. Why are you to enemies? How did it happen?

I’m a witch, I have lots of enemies. Mainly, demons. In my world, witches have the duty to protect humans from demons. We guard the boarders of the Earth for that reason. Another one of my enemies was my husband’s uncle who tried to kill us and take over the world with his army. Luckily, I was there to sacrifice myself and beat his evil plans.

If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be? Why?

Myself or my situation? I would like to trust people more easily, especially these who are worth it.

Rayne’s Perfect Mate Book Review

Just getting around to posting my review for this awesome book I read last week. It has been hectic with trying to find the time to sit down to focus on my blog. You’re probably wondering, if you don’t have time to blog then when do you have the time to read. I would say I get to read maybe once a week. I actually sat down to read Rayne’s Perfect Mate the same day I bought it. It was done in two hours. I devoured it that fast. You will find my review below and if you’re wondering I loved it.

Rayne’s Perfect Mate was an awesome read. It had me gripped from the very first page. The pages just went by so fast I devoured this book in under 2 hours and want more. McKayla did an awesome job depicting the true turmoil that inflicts mothers that are faced with the worse change possible, raising your kids alone. Take a journey to how she finds the answer to all her problems after a mate she never imprinted with walks out for her true mate to walk in. Looking forward to book 3 and hopefully more :).

Book 2 in the Denver Troubles Series

When Rayne finds out she’s pregnant with her second baby it comes right on the heel of her mate leaving her. Now she’s on her own and has no time to be happy…with her emotions rolling out of control she thought things couldn’t get worse. Not until she imprints with her boss, Zac. Rayne hopes to catch a small break but the man she’s meant to be with has his own hesitations on becoming an alpha dad. She must be strong for her little girl, Annmarie, and her unborn child. No matter how bad things get. When Annmarie goes missing she’s ready to tear apart the whole city to find her. With or without Zac at her side.

Nothing, absolutely nothing, will stop her from protecting her kids even if it breaks her heart.

Zac has forced himself to keep his distance from Rayne for two long years but now that’s no longer an issue when they imprint at the grocery store…he’s not sure who’s more shocked. Him or Rayne. But completing the bond will make him a father to another man’s daughter and add to that…Rayne is pregnant. He’s not sure if he’s ready for everything; two kids and neither of them are his. Then things go to hell like a -bad shift when Rayne’s daughter goes missing and he suddenly feels as if a piece of him clicks into place. Can he and Rayne face their problems together? Or will they crash and burn in the face of such immense trials?

He’ll be faced with challenges he never thought possible all because of the woman he loves.

‘He was about a head taller than I was. He was black, and had dark, caramel eyes. There were shadows underneath his eyes, with a sort of sorrow engraved within them. He was around my age, but something told me otherwise. It was his very presence that reminded me of something kind, compassionate, desperate.

He wore all black, so much so I thought he looked like the reaper. His hands were bound, just like mine, and though his head was supposed to be down, he knew I was there. There was something animalistic about him, something I couldn’t help but be enticed by. And it snapped me out of my hunger.

“Do you know me?” was the first thing I heard.’

Nathan is a resident at Blackwell, a famous institution for the deranged, the criminally insane, and children with special powers. His job? Devour death row inmates on the day of their execution. This changes when he is kidnapped by a mysterious man named Damien, who says he knows Nathan from a life he neither wanted nor understood. In this chilling tale of love and loss, can Nathan overcome his demons and find the strength to move on, or will he be lost in the sorrow of his own sins?

Maple’s Strong Alpha Book Review

In my October Newsletter I featured McKayla Schutt’s new release Rayne’s Perfect Mate to all my VIP Readers. Once I found out Rayne’s book was the second in the series I went out and bought book 1. I wanted to get an idea of McKayla’s work and didn’t expect the outcome I got.

Maple’s Strong Alpha is suspenseful, steamy and a hole can of awesome mixed into one novella size book. I haven’t gotten this deep into a book in a long time and I couldn’t put it down. Each character had their own realm of stubborn mixed with wolf hormones going crazy. There were times I wanted to laugh at characteristics the wolves showcased. But, the hardest part was waiting for the climax of the book. I won’t reveal any spoilers.

After reading this book I was hooked. I already purchased book 2 and read it in one sitting. Now I am waiting on book 3. This is by far my favorite read of 2018 and highly recommend everyone to snatch this one up. McKayla already has wolves prancing around in my head making me want to write my own stories.

Screen Shot 2018-10-22 at 11.15.20 PMMAPLE’S STRONG ALPHA

When seven-year-old Cora landed on Raymand’s door step, he planned on finding her a permanent home… somewhere else. With hunters killing parents and kidnapping pups for God only knows what, Raymand is trying to keep his whole pack protected. When he meets his feisty mate, Maple, the urgency to get Cora out grows stronger. He won’t delay completing the bond with Maple.

Nothing will stop him from creating his own family with his mate.

Maple has always been the headstrong wolf that doesn’t take crap from anyone. When she goes to meet the pack’s lawyer about contract issues, she meets the alpha struggling to deal with Cora who lost both of her parents. Even before they imprint, Maple feels a deep connection to the sexy alpha and this cute pup. She wants to make things work with her bad alpha mate and she plans on convincing him to be a dad to little Cora.

She’ll challenge the alpha to keep Cora in their lives.

DG Lamb: Guest Post

Please welcome, my special guest Sci-fi Author DG Lamb to my blog for this special Friday Author Spotlight. He has prepared an awesome guest post! Hope you all enjoy :).

~ World Building ~
The Bridge between Author and Reader

In fantasy and sci fi, world building is all about answering the question: What if? It is the answers to these questions of what if that are the girders of the bridge the reader must cross to enter the author’s imagined world. If there are too few girders or if they are poorly assembled, the bridge’s roadway, the surface on which the reader walks, will be shaky or uneven. The need to sufficiently think out and consistently apply the details of how a futuristic or magical world works creates one of the greatest challenges for the fantasy/sci fi writer. Why? Because the foundational answers to these what if questions are rarely directly referenced in the writing. Or, to continue the analogy, the structure of the bridge is mostly unseen.

For me, the original what if was: What if I was creating a Skinner Box in the future, having all of that advanced technology at my disposal, what would it be like? So, harkening back to your Intro to Psychology class, recall that B F Skinner was a behavioral psychologist who created an operant conditioning chamber in which rats would learn to press a lever to receive a food reward. I began thinking of all of the ways a futuristic room could supply positive and negative responses to the occupant’s behavior: varied lighting levels, colors, temperature, smells, the firmness of the floor – all sorts of ways to shape the person’s behavior. And thus, The Womb was born! But, so what? I had a fantastic room that could do all sorts of neat stuff, but it was just a single girder. So, I needed to answer some more what if questions.

I had to know what kind of society would want to create such a room. Well, we already know it has to be set in the future. But, what if there was a secret order of assassins who kidnapped children and molded them to fill their ranks of covert operators? Hmmm, seems unlikely that people wouldn’t notice that their children were disappearing. OK, what if Earth societies continued their competitive ways and after the discovery of FTL (faster than light) space travel, they so rapidly expanded outward that the space frontier became much like the old Wild West in America? What if law enforcement and governmental oversight lagged far behind this expansion, particularly in the American Sector, where private enterprises were allowed to establish settlements to support capitalist ventures? What if some of these “company colonies” were a bit more relaxed about funding social institutions, such as orphanages, and a significant number of children were left to fend for themselves? Who would notice if a few choice candidates were plucked from this planet or that colony? Wow! Now I have the beginnings of a system of connecting girders that supports the creation of The Womb.

Most of these elements of Joshua’s world are only indirectly referenced, if at all. For example, the fact that a Swedish ex-patriot in Norway discovered FTL travel is not even hinted at until well into the Driven to the Hilt series – the fifth book, in fact. But this girder permits the placement of a tiny tasty detail in The Deepest Cut (Book 1), as the topic for a paper Joshua had to write for his mother. For me, such details are the small sprinkling of spice that brings more flavor to the world, helping the story sparkle with life. Sometimes the need for girders is obvious. I knew I had to support the idea that someone as young as Joshua could survive what was to come. So I tried to establish a strong foundation with the core values instilled by his parents, his obvious intellect, his mother’s loving but unrelenting expectations that he do his best, his greater maturity secondary to being an only child, and his physical prowess and leadership skills by way of the stickball game, among other things. However, sometimes the missing girders wake me up in a cold sweat. For example, after I first wrote about Joshua retrieving Mom’s Fang from Muldavy, I just had him continuing on his way, fighting to survive the malignant attentions of the underbelly of New Cincinnati. But then it struck me, are you serious? Some kid is seen walking into town holding a creature in his hand that is so deadly, the fear of it has kept the colony out of The Swamp since its founding. And this would not get out? This would not make the news? Of course it would. But if such an issue is not addressed, perhaps the reader will not realize exactly what is wrong, but most will hear a hollow thump to their footsteps as they cross the bridge, an untruth that echoes from beneath, causing a dissatisfaction that lingers to the end of the book. And then they will say, “Yeah, that was a pretty good book, I guess.” They will not say, “Now that was a great read! I have to tell my friends about this.”

And so, the unheralded process of writing speculative fiction is supporting the world you create with a sufficient number of properly placed girders. I did this with a wide variety of topics: the weather that produces the permanent overcast of New Cincinnati, the extensive use of lab created foods, the way in which the bottom-line priorities of the sponsoring corporation shaped the colony. And the impact of each of these elements must be taken into account when writing about the people of the settlement. If you have considered all of these things, it will come through in both obvious and subtle aspects of your writing. The logical application of the rules of your world and the glimmers of fine details that you create provides that extra dimension, that rounding of the edges, that filling out of the characters, that makes a good story great.

FINALDriven to the Hilt Book 1DRIVEN TO THE HILT

Already a social outcast because of his father’s alleged betrayal, young Joshua finds himself trapped outside the mining colony on the planet of Cypress Grove. He faces a dark rainforest infested with a creature so deadly, it has kept all humans confined inside their only settlement for decades. If he can manage to escape these alien wilds, he will then have to brave the even darker dangers of the colony’s criminal underworld.

In this original coming of age tale, debut author DG Lamb lays the foundation for the Driven to the Hilt series with plenty of action, unique style, and a richly crafted young hero.

Dragonkind ~ 52 Realms: Book 2

As an ancient immortal, bonded dragon shifter, Casstiel should have joined his soul mate Maya, when she was murdered ten years ago by the Ilyium; a vicious and powerful group of druid witches set on destroying all supernatural beings.
But with her last breath, Maya, aware that Casstiel was also tethered to another, severed their bond, and left him behind in the land of the living.
For ten years Casstiel extracts his vengeance against the Ilyium, all the while blaming fate, along with another.
A female, and the one who kept him alive and unable to join Maya.
Casstiel lives in a haze of fury, neglecting his family, until he comes face to face with her.

Suddenly his protective instincts awakening, and he realizes what an ass he’s been.
However, he also finds himself fiercely attracted to her. Even worse, she opens his eyes and makes him question what it is he really wants.
Half human and half Fire-born, Ashara has never soared the skies or shifted into her dragon. Instead, she’s been held captive as a breeder for the Ilyium, heart breaking more each time they take a child from her.
Her only solace has been a connection to another that’s always kept her sane in a cold, harsh life.
When her daughter’s mate suddenly frees her from where her twisted son had been holding her captive, Ashara is happy. Until she’s confronted by a large, sexy male who scares the hell out of her.
Cass wants her to release him, and Ashara how no idea how.
But as her heart awakens to a love she never dreamed possible, she recognizes the bond, and while she struggles to find her place, unsure of her desires, she makes a shocking discovery. One that fills her with fear.
Now Ashara and Cass have decisions to make, though they may not be what anyone wants.

After reading this synopsis I was sold. I mean I’m already a big dragon lover and books featuring dragons are an easy sell on me. However, this synopsis is plain eye candy and makes me drool for more. So, CASSTIEL welcome to my TBR list and Sheri-Lynn looking forward to sinking my teeth into this awesome looking book. Great work.
If your still needing more inspiration to get you to snatch up this dragon book then keep reading. I have a special excerpt below to spark your interest and hope it gets you to push that pretty link to your favorite online store to purchase. Hang on to your hats ladies and gents! We are going into the world of awesome!

Ashara stood frozen, eyes lowered like prey that’s been caught by a predator.
“Release me,” he repeated.
“Cass, leave her alone,” Zales said telepathically, sounding weary.
“She’s the one,” Cass said. “I need her to sever this bond between us.”
“Maybe, but you scare her, and it’s been a long night,” Zales said with his eyes closed.
With a frustrated snarl, Cass went and sat at the opposite end of the couch from him.
He was so bloody tired. For so long, he’d dreamed of finding the one holding him to life. He’d plotted his revenge, imagining what he would do once he finally found her. He would make her pay, make her hurt, just like he hurt. Then he’d break their connection and send her to hell. It had been all that kept him alive for the last ten years.
But now, he couldn’t do it. No matter what he wanted to believe, she wasn’t some evil sorceress and she looked like she could be blown over by a stiff breeze.
Ashara cautiously at back down on the love seat across from him.
Cass’s body filled with need, making him want to swear. He hated his reaction, along with the sudden desire to protect her. Then there was the pain in her eyes, and her fear when she looked at him. She’d been a victim and that made him angry as well. He didn’t want to like her, desire her, or care at all. He had nothing left to give.
His thoughts turned to his mate Maya. How he wished to join her. Yet as he closed his eyes, Ashara filled his mind. He imagined her naked and under him. Cass let out a low growl and adjusted his position.
As the others in the room slept. Cass looked at Ashara who was curled into a tight ball. Every now and then she’d give a little shiver, and even with her eyes closed, she looked bruised and worn-out. All of a sudden, something in Cass softened.
Zales’s voice filled his head. “Saber rescued her from Darry Caverns where her son, Commander Casin, kept her prisoner.”
Her own son did that to her?
When Zales was once again asleep, Cass rose, but as he started past Ashara, he paused. Then he grabbed the blanket off the couch and gently covered her.
Satisfied, he made his way over to the tunnel and walked through the waterfall until he stood outside.
He glanced up at the rock wall towering behind him, then down at the placid lake over five-hundred-feet below. Despite the sharp white spears rising from the water, it appeared so calm, and completely opposite of his churning emotions. Finally, he gazed at the first of Tartaria’s suns breaking over the horizon. How long since he sat and watched a sunrise?
Thoughts back on Ashara, an unreasonable anger surged once again.
He shoved off the ledge. Power tingled throughout him as he rushed headlong toward the water far below, and he could feel that detested tether strengthening. It pulled, tugged, drew him, and pissed him off more. His dragon struggled for freedom, but he held the shift back.
The lake grew close fast, and he clearly saw the jagged white crystal shards projecting from the pale-blue surface. Sharp, deadly prongs. The pain would be brutal. And he wanted it. Needed it.
But suddenly, a white-hot bolt of lightning pierced him. His magic exploded and Cass howled as he shifted instantly. It wasn’t the result he was looking for, but the pain involved worked.
He roared, and rose into the sky, soaking up the energy that pierced his scaled body, bolt after bolt. Thunder boomed, though there wasn’t a single cloud in sight.

Sheri M-15 - Copy - Copy

I fell in love with reading at age twelve when I read The Black Stallion series by Walter Farley. All these years, I have never stopped reading. No matter where I go, or what I do, I always have a book. One day in 2008, after we moved to the beautiful Creston Valley in British Columbia, I read a book with an ending I didn’t like. I don’t know what book it was, it didn’t stick with me as I almost tossed it out the window.

But that pushed me to write my own book. My own characters, doing what I wanted them to do. Vampires and Were-wolves were big, and while I love them, I love dragons too. Oh, so much! At the time, I’d never heard of dragon shifters, and I don’t really think of the Dracones as shifters, but more as immortals who can change into dragons.

I opened up a word doc and began to type. But life with young kids gets busy and it wasn’t until 2014 that I seriously got into it. My characters really came to life in my head and soon more joined them.
