Sneak Peek Tuesday: Journey to Aviad

Welcome back to another awesome Sneak Peek Tuesday. Today I am featuring Christian Fantasy Author Allison D. Reids book, “Journey to Aviad.” This scene is by far one of my favorites from this book and can’t wait to share it with you.

Journey to Aviad

…A twig snapped somewhere in the underbrush behind him. The man lowered his hood and instinctively turned to peer back down the path. Cursing the darkness under his breath, he listened intently for a moment. Unable to see, and hearing nothing more, he continued on, walking at a faster pace than before. Another twig snapped, from somewhere to the right this time. He withdrew an arrow from his quiver and held it ready in his hand. His senses were all on edge now as he broke into a run, only to hear more sounds of movement from somewhere ahead of him. He was being surrounded, by what he could only guess. He veered to the left, off the footpath, running erratically in the direction of a small stream he had crossed earlier. Any hope to shake his pursuers was futile; the noose they had drawn around him had already tightened. The man was quickly surrounded by a pack of wild beasts, larger than wolves, with red glowing eyes and fiery breath. Leading them was an enormously tall figure with an antlered helm who carried a staff taller than himself.

The man raised his bow and released as many arrows as he could into their midst, unsure if such beasts could even be harmed by them. He screamed as they set upon him, their teeth and claws tearing through his leather armor and into his flesh. But there was more at stake than his life. That was the difficult message he had received in prayer the night before. Perhaps his demise was fated, yet there still might be hope if he could only get to the stream. In spite of the agonizing pain, he rammed his way through the beasts, pulling a small cloth-wrapped object from beneath his shirt. The rain stopped and the clouds thinned. His prayer had been answered after all. The sun had not yet risen, but the moon still shone bright enough to reflect off the surface of the stream. He could see it now, bubbling and flashing not much farther ahead of him.

The man dashed toward the stream with the last of his strength. He dropped his bow, and frantically unwrapped the object. He flung it into the rushing water just as the beasts brought him to the ground with such force that his helm flew off. For a brief instant the moonlight caught the object’s silvery surface, flashing so brightly that he was blinded by it. His last moment of awareness was filled with hope as the creatures around him shrieked in painful fear of its brilliance…

Book Recommendations: Fantasy Adult Books

Welcome to my Book Recommendations post. If I am not doing a book review you will find that I like creating lists of books I loved reading. Check out the list below and perhaps you might find one that interests you. These books are geared towards Fantasy readers that are older than 18. But that doesn’t mean under 18 readers can’t read them.

My Favorites:

Journey to Aviad by Allison D. Reid

Journey to Aviad is a clean read that centers around the growth of two young girls. They are thrown into a world they aren’t entirely aware of and need to make a safe passage. I found Allison’s writing enjoyable and couldn’t put the book down. She writes more for an adult audience but this book is also good for a young adult reader. This book is also PermaFREE.

61elsjrOT3L._SY346_

By the Sword by Mercedes Lackey

I fell in love with this book the moment I started it many years ago. I actually have re-read it several times and can’t get enough of it. I would say it is suitable for young adult readers but is geared more towards adults.

Shadow Stalker Part 1 Resized Small 72 DPI (1)

Shadow Stalker Part 1 by Renee Scattergood

Contains episodes 1-6 from the Shadow Stalker serial series. I rather enjoyed reading this short novellas and really got into it. I would suggest this book to anyone looking for a series to start. Plus this book is PermaFREE.

51IPEyJLzoL

Vampire Shift by Tim O’Rourke

This book was actually the first book with vampires. I actually was surprised to find that the vampires were mindless blood thursty creatures where the Vampyrus were powerful bat like creatures. It was a good experience and I couldn’t get enough. I actually devoured the series and the other four in the Kiera Hudson series. This book is good for young adult readers and adults. Big bonus it is FREE on Kindle Unlimited.

Eragon by Christopher Paolini

This has and still is a popular book. I avoided reading it for so long. Then when I was in the hospital my uncle bought it for me. I started it and couldn’t put it down. I have re-read it several times since then, and it is by far one of my most favorite dragon books. I believe this book is suitable for adults and young adults too. You just have to have a love for dragons.

CHARACTER SPOTLIGHT: Bane

Welcome to my Friday Author Spotlight, today I will be doing a character interview with Bane. He is a miner in Ancient Voices: Into the Depths, Allison D. Reid’s second book in the Wind Rider Chronicles. I am happy to have them both here today for your enjoyment. Hope you will look into adding Journey to Aviad, the first book in the series to your reading list. Best news about this book, it’s permafree.

Without further a do, lets get the party started…

~ BANE ~

Do you have a chosen profession? What is it?

In recent years, I purchased a claim in the mountains of Minhaven and learned to be a miner. I do not seek riches—just hard, honest work, and a quiet life in obscurity. What I did before…well, that knowledge I guard carefully, for my own sake as well as that of everyone who knows me. It is a life I will never return to.

Is there one person you would move heaven and earth to protect? Who is it and why?

There are three people, actually: Morganne, Elowyn, and Adelin. Since the day they walked into Minhaven alone, I have felt responsible for them. My reasons are my own. Perhaps in time I shall reveal them, but for now I must keep them to myself.

What is your greatest fear? How did/will you overcome it?

My greatest fear is that I will never do enough to make up for my past—that the stain of blood on my hands cannot be cleansed. I don’t know that I shall ever overcome this fear, but that will not stop me from spending the rest of my life trying to be the man I should have been all along.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned about life?

That the greatest joy can be found in the simplest things: a quiet night in the tavern, a child’s smile, the glory of the sun rising from the sea, and setting behind the mountains. I have also learned that the best way to redeem my past is not to run from it, which is futile, but to forge a new future while accepting who I am and whatever consequences may yet come. I shall not fear them.

What is the biggest regret you have? Can you explain?

I sincerely regret the path that I took as a youth. It seemed a wise choice at the time—one that would lead to prestige and riches beyond imagining. Yet in exchange it took two priceless things from me that I shall never recover; my family, and my honor.

Do you have a secret you’ve never told anyone? Would you tell us?

I indeed have many secrets, locked away in my mind. Despite my efforts to banish them to the abyss, they often emerge to torment me in the dark of night, haunting my thoughts and dreams. No, I will not share them, and for that you should be thankful. They are my burden to carry alone, and I will do so to the grave.

Tell us about your nemesis. Why are you to enemies? How did it happen?

The identity of my enemy has not yet been revealed to me. He is the one directing the attacks against my fellow miners in Minhaven. Perhaps it is Braeden—that is who I suspect—and he has already done plenty to earn my enmity with his burdensome tax demands. But there could be another; one who serves Braeden and willingly does his dark bidding. In time, I hope to discover the truth, and when I do, my enemy had best look carefully to the shadows, for my blade is swift and deadly.

Elowyn lifts a strange silvery object from a woodland stream. Is it a medallion? A coin? Looking about curiously, she also finds a helm, a bow, broken arrows…and blood drenched soil. Something terrible has happened in this usually peaceful wood. Her world—the whole world—is about to change forever…

#Christian #Fantasy Book Spotlight: Visions of Light and Shadow by Allison

This post is getting out later than I planned. The day just go away from me, with dealing with two monstrous twin boys and working on different projects. I stated in my earlier post this morning I would be showcasing Allison D. Reid’s latest publication and here it is, “Vision’s of Light and Shadow” book 3 in the Wind Rider Chronicles.

Visions of Light and Shadow
Book 3 in the Wind Rider Chronicles

It has been six months since Cailean’s death, and Elowyn can’t get his special clifftop in the mountains out of her thoughts…or her dreams. Something is drawing her there, despite the danger, and time is running out. The new spring growth is threatening to cover what’s left of his foot trail forever, but getting there is going to be more challenging than she imagined, especially with the thieves still lurking along the mining road.

Morganne is having difficulties of her own. The monks are making plans to send the tomes away, Braeden’s tax demands are increasing yet again, and Morganne’s once prosperous shop has been noticeably empty. On top of that, the Kinship is getting ready to leave Minhaven—seemingly for good this time.

With political unrest building, and the Black Shrine still intact, Glak and Bane want the girls to go with them. Elowyn is eager to leave her sorrows behind, certain that Aviad is calling them to follow the road beyond Minhaven, but Morganne isn’t so sure. She’s not ready to abandon everything they know for an uncertain future, and Elowyn finds herself at a crossroads. Will she be able to convince Morganne that it’s Aviad’s voice she is hearing, or will she be forced to go on alone?
