Book Review: Dead Angels

Book two in the Kiera Hudson Series Two took us away from the story line in book one. Now getting back on track we are back at Hallowed Manor with the injured Sam and the distraught group. In this book things start to get more complex into the series and takes you down a road not expected.

The Review

The group is back at Hallowed Manor recuperating from their ordeal in book one. Kiera is still heartsick over the decision Jack Seth forced on her. While Kayla tends to an injured Sam. Hoping to save their new friend they flee Hallowed Manor hoping to save Sam from becoming a skin-walker.

Along the road they find themselves hunted by the skin-walkers and fighting for their lives. A turn of events takes them to seek refuge in a railway station where Isidor spins a story from his past for his friends. The end of the book is a tearjerker and will leave your heart broken.

I was excited to get back to Kiera and the main story line. However, this book turned out to be more of a trip down memory lane for Isidor. This was a refreshing read and extremely interesting. I loved getting to know Isidor more and finding out more about the pushed world. The ending left me heart broken because someone dies. I will not say who but it will leave you devastated. Highly recommend this book to all the Kiera Hudson fans out there or someone looking for a fun twist on the vampire line of books. It is by far not the tradition vampire story but has awesome creatures called vampyrus.

Ranking: 5 out of 5 stars!

The Book

Fleeing Hallowed Manor and being hunted by the Skinwalkers, Kiera and her friends take shelter from a storm in a deserted railway station set in a remote valley. As they spend the night hiding from those who are hunting them, Isidor tells his friends a story about how he had come across the word PUSH some years before on his first journeys above ground. But unknowingly, Isidor’s story will have devastating consequences for one of them.

Author Spotlight: Kenzie Macallan

KMgoldKenzie lives with her husband in New England and is a huge dog lover. She has been fortunate enough to travel all over the world to places like Africa, Greece, Switzerland, Holland, France, England and, of course, Scotland. Edinburgh is one of her favorite places.

Her overactive imagination keeps going. Creativity seems to be part of her soul as she paints portraits, takes photographs, and bakes. Cooking seems to elude her. They have all added to her storytelling especially when writing about strong women and alpha men. She looks forward to adding to her adventures and her readers.

6 Fun Facts:

1. I lived in the Ivory Coast in West Africa for two years when I was a child. We moved to Greece after that for a year and a half. Both countries were beautiful and very unique.
2. When I was ten years old I was scouted by an Olympic ice skating coach who said, “You have raw talent.” I loved figure skating. However, my brother was three years younger and my mom didn’t want to take me to the ice skating rink at 5 am. I can’t blame her.
I continued to skate for many years after.
3.  In the last year, I have taken up knitting, something I never would have considered in the past. I’ve made a basket weave cowl, scarf, and a fleece-lined shawl for a friend. I made the cowl for me but after that I feel like I need to find them a home.
4. My husband and I are huge dog lovers especially pit bulls. We had two rescues, Nikko and Koda. They were so funny together and were inseparable. They lived long lives. Koda lived to thirteen and Nikko lived to almost fifteen. We miss them so much. My step son has a pit bull rescue, Roxie, who we adore. She’s our grand furbaby.
5. We love to travel. Last April we went to Tennesse and loved it. This year, we’re going to Washington D.C. after Christmas. Neither one of us has been there and I’m sure it won’t be our last trip.
6. At one time, I painted portraits mostly of children. I worked in oil. But I gave it up to write. I guess I just love to create things. Right now, my passion is writing and I will continue to write and publish.

Wednesday Writing Tips: 13 Tips for Writing Fantasy

13 Kick-Ass Tips For Writing Fantasy From Professional Fantasy Editors

By: Reedsy

Has there ever been a better time to be writing fantasy? Where once it was a fringe genre, now fantasy is everywhere in pop culture, from Harry Potter to the memes surrounding Jon Snow.

There’s also never been a more exciting time to write fantasy. The genre is changing daily, as authors such as Neil Gaiman, Susanna Clarke, and Patrick Rothfuss continue to interpret, subvert, and stretch it to attain new pinnacles. What’s more, the public can’t seem to get enough of it, proving that there is a market for fantasy — and it’s a big one.

So, if you’re an author, where can you find a place for yourself in today’s talent-rich terrain?

In our search for the finest writing tips in the realm, we spoke to seven of the top fantasy editors on our marketplace. They’ve worked with George R.R. Martin, James Dashner, Brandon Sanderson, and many more of the brilliant authors who are re-defining the genre. Here’s what they said.

1. Identify your market

If you don’t know your market, you’ve already made a mistake, says Erin Young, an agent for Dystel Goderich & Bourret, which represents authors such as James Dashner of Maze Runner fame.

“Oh, my market is fantasy,” you might say, waving your monthly subscription of Imagination And Me. But is your story steampunkurban, or grimdark fantasy? Is it for children or young adults? Are there elves or tech? Is it set in the modern world, or is it a re-imagining of an alternate past? Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, for instance, doesn’t target Discworld’s readers, and no-one would instinctively group Harry Potter and Stephen King’s The Dark Tower in the same category.

Indeed, “fantasy” is such a broad genre that you’ll need to dig deeper to find your niche — but it’s important as your subgenre not only informs your characters and setting, it also allows you to identify your competition and audience. As Young says: “If your characters are younger, you should be writing YA or MG, not adult.”

To get a better picture of the various subgenres within fantasy, check out this guide as well as this post on the evolution of fantasy since the 1900s.

2. Develop your world through short stories

Did you know that JRR Tolkien wrote a gazillion short stories about Middle-Earth before ever starting The Hobbit?

He needed somewhere to begin. That’s exactly what Jenny Bowman, an editor who worked on Robert Beatty’s Serafina and the Black Cloak, advises: a good way to build your world is to write short stories that feature some of your characters. “Do this with the intention of excluding [these stories] from your book,” she says. “This gives you freedom to create a new universe with no boundaries.”

“Build your fantasy world through short stories that feature your characters,” and more tips inside

So if you can’t churn out the full-blown novel inside of you just yet, don’t sweat it. Dip your toe into the water through short stories, instead.

3. Plot out your story before you begin

Stories in the fantasy genre are often complex and epic — all the more reason to plot it out before. You don’t want to accidentally trip over all 99 of your storylines. And you don’t want to be that writer who gets to the end of the book and realizes they’ve forgotten to tie a knot in one part of the plot. Hello, darkness, my old friend.

That’s why Young says to get a general sense of your plot before you start writing. “You’ll know your world so much better if you know your story first,” she says. “Then, once your story is plotted out, you can use the plot structure as a skeleton to show where you want to build your world, scene by scene.”

For more food for plotting thought, you can read up on narrative arcs here.

Author Interview with Cam Johns

It’s Tuesday again. Today I am sitting down with Erotica author Cam Johns in her very own interview. She has some interesting things to share. Hope you enjoy the read. She also has the first book in her, The Arousing Series, for FREE. Make sure to check it out below. Happy reading :).

The Interview

Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I mainly write erotic romance of all types (short stories, novels and poetry) and proofread/edit for others on the side. I’m married to a wonderful man who actually started me on this “writing path” and we have no children together…however we do have the most adorable toy poodle!

What genre do you write in? Why?
As I mentioned, I write erotica. My stories are almost always full of conflict, lots of romance (not just sex) and ends with a twist. I have absolutely no idea why my mind is so dirty…it just is! LOL

What inspired you to become an author?
Long story short, once my husband was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, I just couldn’t put my pencil down. It started with just journaling, then poetry. But, one day I started writing chapters to what became a three-part series-Full of sex! I don’t know why or where it came from, but once those tumultuous sex scenes were written a love story was formed followed by some violence and that was that.

Tell us about your latest release?
I wish I could say I’ve had time to release a novel since the last installment of my series, Arousing Inferno, but between my husband’s illness and just life period, I haven’t. I am working on a book of short stories,a spinoff novel, and two stories for two collaborations. Release to be announced.

How did you come up with the story within your books? What inspired your creativity?
I don’t have a definitive answer for that. Sometimes, I would dream of a concept and there you go.

When you write your books do you go straight for pencil and paper or a computer? Why?
I go for pencil and paper because it’s easiest.

Tell us about your main character in your book. What makes them unique?
Jackson is the alpha male lead of my trilogy, the Arousing Series. He is far from the typical alpha because he genuinely wants to love and be loved. He just wants to control how that happens, of course. Karisma is my witty, no nonsense female lead. She is far from timid and has no problem putting my alpha in his place.

What is the one thing you want to say to your readers?
Thank you for supporting me and other indie authors.

Are you Indie Published or Traditional? Why did you choose this route?
Indie Author because I just wanted to do it for me and my own terms.

About the Author

CAM_LOGOCam Johns began her career as a published author in 2016 with the release of Arousing Consequences, the first book of her trilogy, The Arousing Series. However, actually publishing wasn’t part of her plan. After her husband was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, she found that writing became a great way to relieve the tension, and mounted pressures that come with watching someone she loves suffer from such a harsh diagnosis. It was her husband that pushed her to share her voice, regardless of how erotic that voice would become.

Live. Love. Laugh. A well-known mantra that has become her way of living. Live, by accepting the things you cannot change. Love, the ones closest to you as if there’s no tomorrow. Laugh, each day because sadness will get you no where!

Wednesday Writing Tips: Selling by Not Telling

Selling a story by NOT telling a story

Here’s the thing with telling someone about your book – be it in person, or in an ad, or via the back cover copy you’ve spent arduous hours perfecting: almost every author is terrible at it. Because almost every author makes the horrible mistake of thinking that you sell someone on your story by telling them about your story. Nothing could be further from the truth.

You have to remember you have maybe two sentences before people get bored. So you don’t start off with your story, you start off with a BANG.

What I often tell new authors — or even old authors — is to imagine your sales pitch as pictures of your kids (if you don’t have kids, imagine you do — you’re a writer, it should be easy). Every single human above the age of 20 has had someone approach them with that person’s pictures of their kids. They start showing off the pictures and yammering on about things that matter incredibly to that person, but not at all to us.

Your story is your baby in some ways. Especially in that nobody else cares at all about it until you give them a REASON to care.

Now, if that person who can’t stop showing you their baby pictures walks up and says, “Timmy’s face caught fire yesterday,“ now you are in it for the long haul. They can actually take their time getting to the good part, because they have told you something in the first sentence that makes it clear the story is going to be worth your while.

Remember, also, that ad copy and back cover copy is NOT ABOUT TELLING THE STORY. It is about providing potential readers with an idea of the tone and genre of your book, and then the only other thing you are trying to do is pose a question in the reader’s mind that can ONLY be answered by reading the book.

Wednesday Writing Tips: How to Write Fresh

Writing Fantasy: How to Write Fresh When Following a Recipe
by: Jeff Wheeler

When a reader falls in love with a new fantasy world, they can be skittish about trying something new. One of my heroes growing up (and the man who inspired me to write) was Terry Brooks and his Shannara books always outsold his other series. I was willing to follow him into the world of the Magic Kingdom series and his urban fantasy series, but like many others felt the recipe of Shannara to be the most enjoyable. I was always ready for another helping!

During my own writer’s journey, I did not want to be constrained to write in a single world. My imagination has always been like the opening credits of Star Trek, with a craving to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go—well, you get the drift.

But that leads to a problem. How do you entice readers to try out a new world when everyone already loves the old one? Why start from scratch when the recipe works?

In my view, the wonderful thing about ingredients is the variety of offerings. Whoever decided to crush Oreos into vanilla ice cream was a genius. Authors are inspired by a variety of sources and then mash-up different ideas to create interesting new concoctions. Some work, some don’t. We explore and play with many. I’ve always liked to push and test myself to do something nontraditional.

So how do I make it easy for readers to swallow?

Book Review: Dead Night

The series is just getting interesting with book one being awesome as always. Now we move onto book two in the Kiera Hudson Series Two. This is an interesting twist to the story line for Potter has to face his first love, Sophie. Except this time he is facing her in a pushed world where she doesn’t know who he is.

The Review

Overall, this was an interesting book that took you down a path not expected. Having Potter face his first love once again but in a pushed world leaves him facing obstacles and secrets. Now being with Kiera he finds himself torn when Sophie shows interest in him and he has to make a choice. Not only that with skin-walkers hunting Sophie they both find themselves in a fight for their lives.

This was an interesting read. However, I see this book more as a way for the author to explain the way the world is than anything. Overall, that is the only reason I think it fits into the series itself. Potter always has a way of getting himself into trouble and find himself in situations that end up making him keep secrets from the one he loves, Kiera. This book is well written and enjoyable to read. Highly recommend it to those interested in this series or wanting to get to know Potter more in depth.

Ranking: 4 out of 5 stars!

The Book

When Potter disappears from Hallowed Manor for twenty-four hours, he goes in search of the only person he thinks will be able to give him answers as to why the world has been pushed. That person is his first love, Sophie. But Sophie has been pushed, too, and is running for her life. In a world where wolves live amongst humans, Potter must save Sophie while trying to search for answers. During his search, he discovers that some things are best left secret.

Book Spotlight: Reecah’s Flight

Welcome to another Friday. This week has gone by faster than expected. To start off the weekend right I am featuring Richard H. Stephens’ book Reecah’s Flight. Check out the sneak peek down below and if you love it snatch this book up through Kindle Unlimited.

Reecah screamed as the old crone leaned in close, her breath rank. She remembered trying to escape Grimelda’s mystical shop and then a bright light and then…

She found herself lying on her back atop a black marble slab in the middle of a small, candlelit cavern—its vaulted ceiling spiked with rock formations. She tried to push away from the vile woman but Grimelda’s stick-like hands pinned her to the stone.

“What are you doing?” Reecah asked, frantically looking around and wondering why her ear lobes hurt. She forced an arm between herself and the witch and touched her right ear, shocked to feel a hard stone embedded there. She pulled her hand back—her fingertips red with blood. She checked her other ear and felt another hard stone.

Her frightened gaze met Grimelda’s. “What have you done to me?”

   Grimelda’s expression made her shiver.

“Relax child. Grimelda has done what Lizzy neglected.”

Reecah frowned but didn’t want to waste time finding out what the crazy crone meant. She needed to get off the table and escape.

A fount on a matching marble stand stood near her head—perched on the edge of a blood-letting trough surrounding the base of the table.

She swallowed hard. Though not versed in the ways of the occult, Poppa had taught her to read at an early age. She had taken great joy in reading the tomes Poppa kept locked in an old trunk by his and Grammy’s pallet. If she wasn’t mistaken, she lay upon a sacrificial altar.

Using every bit of strength she had, Reecah bucked her hips and arched her back, driving her shoulder blades and head against the table to escape Grimelda’s grasp.

She landed on the floor with bare feet but Grimelda’s iron grip maintained control of her wrists.

“Easy child, you’re going to ruin everything.”

“Get your hands off me, you crazy witch!” Reecah shrieked, jerking her arms free and stepping backward. She bumped into a wooden table covered in crimson cloth. On top of the cloth, sat an array of knives. Some for slicing, some for chopping, one with a serrated edge for sawing, and another with a hooked tip—just like the one Grammy used to skin animals. “Where am I?”

“You’re in Grimelda’s cellar.” Grimelda wiped her blood-stained fingers on her apron.

The witch’s cellar? It looked like a cave devoted to demonic rituals. She swallowed a lump of fear and put the knife table between them, her eyes wildly darting about, searching for her boots and Poppa’s weapons. She reached up with both hands, rolling the stones in her earlobes between her thumb and forefinger. “What have you put in my ears?”

“I have adorned you with your bloodstones.”

“My what?” Her hands were wet and sticky with fresh blood. “Take them out!”

Grimelda shook her head. “That I cannot do. Once the ritual has been performed it would be too dangerous to remove them.”

   “Ritual? What did you do?”

“Something Lizzy should have had me do years ago if you wish to become a Windwalker.”

“You’re mad! Leave me alone!” Reecah glanced at the stairs.

   “Calm yourself, poppet.”

Poppa’s endearment snapped Reecah’s open-mouthed attention back to the witch.

“Yes, child. Vili’s name for you.”

“You know that because you’re a witch.”

“Grimelda has been called many things.” Grimelda pursed her thin lips, her tone softening. “The people of Fishmonger Bay labelled me as such. At one time I might have been hurt by the name, but the villagers leave me alone so I live with it.”

Reecah noted the witch had started referring to herself in the first person. Her eyes flicked between the woman and various pieces of ornate furniture lining the walls. Pieces that looked as if they belonged in a palace, according to the sketches in Poppa’s tomes.

A sudden burst of flapping wings appeared from the curved doorway marking the flight of stone carved stairs climbing into darkness. The raven landed on the near rim of the fount and turned its head sideways, blinking at her.

“Vili spoke fondly of his little poppet whenever he visited.”

   Reecah’s temper rose. “You’re a liar.”

   “You’re a liar! You’re a liar!”

Grimelda gave the bird a dirty look. “My sister called you her flower bud. You called her Grammy.”

The pain was too much. Reecah’s eyes misted up. “How do you know all this? Grammy doesn’t have a sister.”

Grimelda stepped toward her but stopped when Reecah’s eyes honed in on the knives before her.

“Lizzy was afraid of what I represent.”

   “A witch?”

   “A witch! A witch!”

“Yes, child, if that helps you understand.”

“Understand what? That if I hadn’t woken up when I did, you were about to send my spirit to your sick gods?”

   “Sick gods! Sick gods!”

Grimelda didn’t deny it. Instead she picked up a carving knife and threw it at the raven.

The bird rose in a flurry of feathers and winged its way back up the stairway.

Grimelda shook her head. “Such a pest, that one. I should turn him into a toad.”

   Reecah’s eyes grew wider.

“Witch humour. I can’t actually do that.”

Reecah wasn’t so sure. Everything she had heard about Grimelda from the village children as a youngster attested to the fact that the witch was capable of performing many dastardly tricks.

“Why did you put me on that…that sacrificial altar? Where’s my stuff?”

“Your stuff?” Grimelda scratched her head. “Oh, your boots and weapons. I left them in the shop.”

Reecah tried to casually step toward the doorway. “Why?”

“Look at me? You may not consider yourself heavy, but it was all I could do to drag you down here without the extra weight.”

   “Even my boots?”

   “Well no, but—”

“But nothing.” Reecah took another big step. “What else were you planning on doing to me?” Her eyes went to the knives again.

“You were hurt. I healed you.”

Reecah flexed her muscles and surveyed her outstretched arms. “That’s strange. I feel alright.”

“Of course you do. I healed you after you tried to break my door.”

Reecah swallowed. She backed farther away, not believing a word the old crone said.

Grimelda followed with her eyes. “If you insist on leaving, I won’t stop you, but…” She let the word hang between them.

Reecah stopped and waited for it.

“You may never know if our family gift has passed down to you.”

   “What are you talking about?”

“Whether you believe me or not, my child, once I’m gone, you’ll be the last in a line of magic that has been in this world for as long as the sun has risen. You’re the only one who can prevent our legacy from disappearing from the world.”

Reecah adjusted her stance, jutting her hips to one side and leaning her head toward Grimelda. “Huh?”

Grimelda nodded. “It is as I feared. Lizzy never told you, did she?”

Grammy’s death had been hard on her. Reecah had been too heartbroken to remember everything Grammy had told her. Grimelda’s words triggered the painful memory.

   Your great-grandmother possessed the gift.

The implication slammed into her. She hadn’t thought of it as anything more than a dying, old lady’s rambling.

Grimelda nodded, a smile lifting the corners of her mouth.

It skipped me, but your great-aunt was touched by it. I’ve been watching for it in you, afraid to see it foster. By keeping you secluded all these years, I have done you a disservice.

Reecah didn’t care that her jaw dropped in disbelief. She stood in a witch’s cave staring at Grammy’s sister! Accepting Grimelda’s words, she noticed the startling resemblance between the sisters—Grimelda was much older in appearance but there could be no mistake—the witch of Fishmonger Bay was Reecah’s only living relative.

Character Interview w/ Auren

Welcome to a new week. It’s Monday and I got a treat for you. I am sitting down today with Auren from the Shadow Stalker Series in her very own interview. Stop in and check it out. Hope you have an enjoyable read. Good luck on the rest of your week. 🙂

Character Interview

From the Shadow Stalker Series

Who are you and what makes you great?
My name is Auren. I wouldn’t say I’m great, but I do have an important purpose (not one of my choosing).

What is your sole purpose in life?
Well, if I had a choice, I’d just want to go to school, have a career, get married, and live a happy and quiet life. Unfortunately, that’s not in the cards for me. I’m a shadow stalker, and I have a purpose that has been given to me by the shadow people. I have to stop a raving lunatic from destroying the people of the Serpent Isles.

What kind of adventures have you had that stay with you to this day?
The camping trips I’ve taken with my foster father, Kado. Usually, he’s all business, but when we’ve gone on those camping trips, those were the best times. We’d have such a great time.

Do you have a love interest? If you do please tell us about him/her or why you don’t.
No, I guess I just haven’t met the right person yet. I’m not really looking for a relationship right now anyway. Especially not when my life has suddenly gotten so complicated.

Tell us about your journey you are on and how it has helped you grow as a person.
Rather than growth, I think learning who I am, and what I am, has made me realize I don’t know myself at all. I’m still trying to figure everything out. Maybe, once I finish my training as a shadow stalker, I’ll have a better idea.

What kind of creatures do you see on a daily basis?
Does Kado count? No, seriously. I’m new to the Dark Isle, so everything is new to me. I can tell you this… I’ve never been to a place where the plants were more like creatures. It’s quite unnerving!

Who do you look up too? Why?
As much as I often complain about him, I do look up to Kado. He’s the only father I’ve ever known, and even though he doesn’t really show it, I know he cares about me. He’s taught me everything I know.

If you had one thing about yourself that you would want to change what would it be?
I’d be a normal person instead of a shadow stalker, so I could have a normal life.

Who is your ultimate enemy? Why?
Drevin and the Galvadi Empire because they’re the reason my life has turned upside down. They’re the reason everyone is in danger.

What should we expect from you in your coming book?
Well, I hope I can finish my training and stop the Galvadi so my life can be somewhat normal again.Shadow Stalker - Book Feature (2)

The Book

Shadow Stalker Part 1 Resized Small 72 DPI (1)This fast-paced and exhilarating adventure will keep you on the edge of your seat!

Auren longs for the freedom that comes with adulthood and wants to celebrate her coming of age with her friends on a distant island. When her strict foster-father, Kado, says no, she sneaks out, determined to prove she can take care of herself. But her forbidden excursion turns into a nightmare when the island is overrun by the Galvadi Empire forces. Worse, she learns that she is their main target.

Drevin, Emperor of the Galvadi people, is convinced she will enslave the people of the Serpent Isles and wants her dead.

When Auren learns she is a shadow stalker, someone who can travel between the physical and spirit worlds, and that she is the only one who can stop Drevin, it’s more than she can take. Her whole world is turning upside down and instead of adulthood bringing freedom, she is instead overwhelmed by a greater undertaking than any one person could possibly overcome. It seems hopeless.

However, if she can defeat Drevin, maybe she can have her old life back. More than that, the people she cares about would be safe to live their lives, and the people of the Serpent Isles would be free of the Galvadi forever.

Wednesday Writing Tip: How to Write Faster: 15 Tips for Maximum Productivity

By: Perfecting Your Craft; Reedsy Blog

Writes faster than a speeding bullet! Words more powerful than a locomotive! Able to leap from one metaphor to the next in a single bound! It’s a bird… it’s a plane… no! It’s Super Writer! 🚀

As great as that sounds, the truth is that writing quickly is no superpower, but a skill that takes time and practice to develop. After all, most writers struggle just getting the right words down on the page, much less speeding through them.

But don’t despair — learning how to write faster may not be easy, but it willbe worth it! From essay crunch time to NaNoWriMo, there are endless scenarios in which speed-writing is an amazing asset. Follow these tips on how to write as fast as possible to start zooming through your projects… and maybe even take on that “Super Writer” alter ego after all.

1. Know your “golden hours”

One of the first things to do is determine your productivity peaks. Every writer has a different routine and lifestyle, which means this varies hugely from person to person: some of us may enjoy a late-night creativity spike, while others prefer the crisp concentration of the early morning.

Whenever this time is for you, max it out! For example, if you know you’re more focused at night, schedule as many after-dinner writing sessions as possible. Or if you work better in a kid-free environment, write when they’re at school or daycare. You may have to do a bit of trial-and-error to determine your own “golden hours” and arrange your schedule around them, but you’ll notice a HUGE difference in output once you do.

2. Create an outline first

Even if you’re a “pantser” who typically rejects structure, outlining is a mustfor anyone who wants to increase their writing speed. Anytime you sit down to write, it’s easy to become overwhelmed by the number of paths you might pursue — but an outline can rescue you by giving you a clear-cut roadmap. You don’t have to plan out every single detail, but having a solid idea of the overall story arc will help you spend more time writing quickly, and less time fretting over what should happen next.

3. Set concrete goals

Most writers understand that goal-setting is important, but for those trying to write faster, it’s absolutely paramount. Without deadlines, your progress will be uneven and you’ll likely lose focus within weeks (if not days). So before you dive in, set challenging-yet-doable goals for yourself at regular intervals.

Don’t worry; you can start off relatively easy. For example, 500 words per session is a reasonable goal for a first-timer. However, if your ultimate objective is to write faster, you should soon be pushing yourself to write 1,000 or even 2,000+ words every session.

Also remember to give yourself proportional rewards! For example, if you do a full week of writing sessions at 500 words/session, you might buy yourself a new book. But when you do your first full week of 2,000 words/session, treat yourself to a nice dinner or tickets to a show — whatever keeps you motivated.

4. Don’t stop to edit

Our next tip is for all you perfectionists out there: don’t stop to edit. There’s no greater productivity killer when trying to write — not only does editing interrupt your creative “flow,” but it’s also just unnecessary. After all, you’re going to edit your book when you’re done, right? Why worry about it now, when you can always change things later?

Of course, this is way easier said than done. So here’s a more realistic proposal: you can edit typos and simple turns of phrase, but try not to spend more than 10 seconds on any correction. Any more and you’ll break your own rhythm and have to force yourself back into focus mode, which is (needless to say) counterproductive to fast writing.

Book Review: Love for You Alone

Hope you are having a wonderful Tuesday, I sure am. The nice thing about this Tuesday we are bringing the Rizer Wolf Pack review series to a close. Yes today we are reviewing the final book in the series, Love for You Alone. I thought this book ended the series well and brings great hope to the world within its pages. Check out the review below.

The Review

Victor has to face his passed. A love left lost with betrayal believed to be mixed into it has turned the woman of his dreams against him. But, in order to protect his new pack he does the unthinkable, he kidnaps her. Now facing an angry tigress he is in for the fight of his life.

Nicole Lehenengoa is a descendent from the first shifters. Her blood is special and both humans and shifters want to get their hands on her. She doesn’t trust easily and only is looking for one thing—continue her bloodline. Will she put trust in an old love that betrayed her or in a man she shouldn’t trust.

Amelia Wilson strings together a powerful love story that has you rooting for Victor. The only thing is the way he goes about getting his woman is questionable at times. But, what do you expect from a man that is clueless when it comes to the woman he loves. I found this book to be a great ending to the series and wish it continued. Highly recommend this book and all the ones before it to those searching for a shifter series that gives you all kinds of twists and turns.

Stars: 5 out of 5 stars

The Book

T51j6NdjE9OLhe man versus shifter war may have come to an end, but the shifter on shifter fight is just beginning.

Nicole doesn’t know how it happened. She can’t explain how she fell for Victor when they were still so young, and when everyone insisted it would burn out.

Victor is in the past, or at least that’s where he was supposed to be until he kidnapped her from her pack. Nicole is a furious shifter ready to draw blood, even if it does belong to the shifter she once loved and trusted.

Nicole’s temper has not weakened over time but Victor won’t give up on what they once had together. He will walk through fire to be with Nicole and claim her as he should have so long ago.

But what chance does a werewolf shifter have of charming a tigress?

Character Interview w/ Chelsea Bishop

Happy Monday everyone! I have been struggling to keep up with my blog the last few weeks. Sorry if this inconvenienced any of my followers let alone authors that signed up for features. Just been having a hard time with writers block and my work schedule. Without further a due I have below a fun character interview featuring Rena Marin’s character Chelsea Bishop. Hope you enjoy getting to know her. I know I sure did. Happy reading everyone. 🙂

Character Interview

Chelsea Bishop
From the Dead Oaks Terrors Series

Who are you and what makes you great?
My name is Chelsea Bishop. I grew up in this crazy town called Dead Oaks. Last Halloween I came home from college to see some friends who moved away. It turned into a gruesome night where only a few of us survived. I suppose that’s what makes me great, I’m a survivor.

What is your soul purpose in life?
I want to uncover the dark truths about our hometown. Something isn’t right here. Whatever is taking place in Dead Oaks seems to focus its attention on the children most of all. I want to stop it and keep our town safe!

What kind of adventures have you had that stay with you till this day?
The events that took place on that Halloween still haunt me. Since then, I witnessed the terror brought forth by a Ouija board, a poor snake the evil in our town twisted, and recently faced Scary Joe, a scarecrow possessed by the spirit of a local murderer. I think of the losses the town has suffered everyday. It also makes me fight harder to uncover the truth and put an end to the terror.

60349706_2020506294725810_5572741318058180608_nDo you have a love interest? If you do please tell us about him/her or why you don’t.
I don’t know if you’d call him a love interest, but there is Caleb Rollins. He’s a deputy and long time friend. We were both involved in the massacre on Halloween and have since become close while we fight against the evil in Dead Oaks. I can’t deny that he’s a cutie and fun to be around. Just don’t tell him that. He gets a big head about things like that. He doesn’t need anything else to make him full of himself.

Tell us about your journey you are on and how it has helped you grow as a person.
In the beginning, when I came home, my plan was to visit and leave. That all changed when I realized so many were in danger. I’m not a superhero or anything, but I am smart. I’m good at figuring things out. Helping those in Dead Oaks who needs me fills me with a sense of purpose. I stay close to them and want to see the best for them. I guess that’s how I’ve grown. Instead of cutting ties and running away to safety, I’m becoming one of the protectors.

What kind of creatures do you see on a daily basis?
Ghosts. This town is full of them. I even think my shop, Wicked Treasures is haunted. The freakiest thing though had to be the scarecrow, Scary Joe, the Night Stalker. Seeing that monstrosity walking around was freakier than I ever imagined!

Who do you look up too? Why?
Again, don’t tell him, but Caleb. He’s fearless, even when he’s scared to death. If someone is in danger, he throws caution to the wind and only wants to save them. I guess in a way you could say he’s our hero.

If you had one thing about yourself that you would want to change what would it be?
I suppose it would be my need to know everything. According to Caleb, I’m just nosy as hell. I call it eager to learn.

Who is your ultimate enemy? Why?
A person? I don’t have one. The only true enemy I have is the evil gripping this town.

What should we expect from you in your coming book?
Night Stalker, which just released tells the story of Scary Joe, the Night Stalker of Dead Oaks. My part in the story? I’m right in the thick of things helping Caleb try to stop the monster loose in our town and save the teenagers he has his sights set on.

The Book

60125541_2020506101392496_5972984617383231488_nNight Stalker: A Dead Oaks Terrors Series Novella

Tiffany Reynolds has heard enough about the creepy scarecrow her brother and his friends made to enter in the local craft fair. The more she sees it, the stranger it seems. Sometimes it’s in different places, like it moves on its own. Its eyes seem to follow her around the room. Its face is becoming more terrifying. Something isn’t right with her brother’s new obsession but with her friends being stalked by something sinister lurking in the shadows, Tiffany has other things to worry about.
